Dr. David Gee, CWU's Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Sciences, will present the seminar topic "The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): The Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in US Adults: 2003-2010"

Metabolic syndrome is a disorder found in individuals with a cluster of medical conditions including abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and low HDL-cholesterol concentrations.  Individuals with metabolic syndrome have substantially increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.  It is estimated that one-third of adult Americans have metabolic syndrome.  This presentation will describe how the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) can be used to investigate this common and important disorder among Americans
