The Science Education Department offers the Science Education K-8 Minor designed especially for elementary educators.
This minor is open to students in any education major, as well as to other students as appropriate. This minor is not endorsable but will prepare you to be a science leader in the schools, which is in high demand in Washington state and nationally. In addition, students who take the WEST-E in Middle Level Science and pass can achieve status as a Highly Qualified Teacher.
**The Science Education K-8 Minor is now also offered at the CWU Pierce County Center at Pierce College in Western Washington. Contact Vanessa Hunt (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information about this great program.
*This minor is only 17-18 additional credits for CWU elementary education majors. SCED322 is a required major course and three of the 106 courses are required general education courses for the elementary education major (or can be substituted from your science generals). Why choose to minor in Science Education?
- Science leaders are in high demand. More schools are hiring elementary science leaders and specialists.
- Learn science the way you will teach it in your classroom: through engaging, hands-on activities that build your content and teaching skills at the same time.
- Get experience teaching science in real K-8 classrooms: kids are natural scientists, and you’ll find teaching science rewarding and fun!
- It's only 17-18 FUN credits in addition to what you already have to take for the CWU elementary education major.
