Summer Camp Teaching Opportunities
There are two paid teaching opportunities for CWU pre-service science and mathematics teaching majors this summer.
1. Yakima Valley Community College along with the Yakima School District is offering a week-long preparation for college science and math camp at YVCC during the week of June 16-20, 2014. The camp is to support 10th and 11th grade students from migrant families in making college attendance a reality. Pre-service teachers will be paid $400 + transportation costs from Ellensburg for the week. Your commitment would be to attend camp, serve as assistant instructors, and serve in a camp counselor role (especially during lunch). YVCC faculty and staff will serve as primary instructors with some YSD teachers also involved. This would be a great way to make connections in the Yakima region. The camp is a day camp. If you are interested in applying for this experience, please send a letter of application and your resume to Martha Kurtz (firstname.lastname@example.org) or bring them to Science 107 by May 15th.
2. CWU will once again offer the Quest Science and Mathematics Camp for incoming 6th-8th graders. This year's theme is the Science and Mathematics of Magic and the camp runs July 21-25 (40 hrs). We will require instructors to attend a 2 1/2 day pre-camp orientation beginning at noon on July 16 (20 hrs.). There will also be some preparation work between now and July 16 (~20 hrs.). Pre-service science and mathematics teachers will be paid $10.25/hr as instructors. We could really use someone with life or earth science background but will accept all applications. If you are interested in applying for this experience, please send a letter of application and your resume to Martha Kurtz (email@example.com) or bring them to Science 107 by May 9th.
