CWUR 2-60-005 Student Consultation Team

In support of Central Washington University’s commitment to providing a campus environment of integrity, civility and safety, the university employs a multi-disciplinary team approach to responding and reviewing student behavioral concerns.

The Student Consultation Team is designed to work with students who are exhibiting behaviors that may be concerning to the CWU community, specifically those behaviors that may pose a danger to themselves or others. The goal is to create a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary university behavioral intervention strategy to assess and intervene with students who may be at risk, and to give guidance to the university community members who may need to refer students for assistance and review.

The Student Consultation Team includes representatives from the following offices/areas (other offices/areas may be included on an as-needed basis): Dean of Student Success, University Police and Parking Services, Title IX Team/Human Resources, Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities, Residence Life/University Housing, Student Medical and Counseling Clinic, Wellness Center, Disability Services, Case Management, and Faculty Senate.

The Student Consultation Team meets weekly throughout the academic year to review reports, discuss and determine appropriate response or interventions, and refer those reports that warrant the attention of the Threat Assessment Team. The Student Consultation Team works together to suggest intervention strategies that are considered to be the most appropriate and effective for eliminating specific concerning student behaviors. Other members of the university community may be asked to assist the Student Consultation Team in creating the best course of action to respond to student behavioral issues.

The team may suggest various forms of intervention including, but not limited to, the following:

(1) A referral to Case Management for outreach, assessment, and additional referrals;

(2) A referral to Student Medical & Counseling Clinic staff;

(3) A meeting with one of the Student Rights & Responsibilities Hearing Officers; or

(4) A meeting with the Director of Wellness or other full-time, appropriate staff members; or

(5) Referral to other on and/or off campus agencies as identified.

Official hearings by the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities are conducted in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Student Conduct Code (WAC 106-125). Official hearings take place when it becomes apparent to the Student Consultation Team that the initial and more informal forms of intervention with a student have been unsuccessful in positively modifying a student’s behavior.
