CWUP 5-40-020 Definition of Centers and Institutes

A center or institute is an academic unit affiliated with Central Washington University which is dedicated to carrying out a limited, highly specialized purpose. The center or institute draws personnel and resources from CWU together in a common effort, providing a liaison unit that carries out extramural activities usually related to research or public issues for the benefit of state and local agencies or officials, business, industry, professional interest, and/or the public at large.A center utilizes a staff of specialists and the services of personnel from one or more academic and university departments to provide organized leadership and a unified program. Activities carried out by the center or institute may include the offering of courses, student internships, student practica, conferences, training, research, extension services, as well as publications, service, and public information programs.
