1998 - 1999 Letter from the President

A letter to Central Washington University Faculty, Staff, and Students

The mission of Central Washington University is to provide students with a comprehensive education in a personalized environment which nurtures their physical, intellectual, social, and ethical development. Experiences obtained through a university education must prepare each participant with the ability to function successfully in a global economy demanding advanced analytical, technical, and communicative skills. The university focuses on quality and allocates all its resources to provide an environment which supports the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and techniques. Graduates bring multiple perspectives and enlightenment to complex societal, technilogical, and ethical issues.

Members of the university community support a relationship between teacher and student that makes each a partner in learning, scholarship, research, creative expression, and problem solving. Students receive instruction from dedicated faculty members who are well qualified in their respective academic disciplines and well equipped with the most effective teaching strategies for helping students understand each academic subject.

Providing higher education access to the diverse population of the state of Washington is a university priority reflected in its multicultural, multiracial student body, faculty, and staff. The campus is also distinctive for providing access for persons with disabilities. Learning to understand and value different cultures, ethnic groups, and life circumstances are integral to student development.

Central Washington University faculty and staff understand and acept the responsibility entrusted to us when a student chooses to attend. All students must be helped to maximize their capabilities to meet and face world challenges successfully.

Very truly yours,

President Ivory Nelson
