University Recreation partners with several academic departments and units to provide co-curricular experiences for graduate and undergraduate students. These experiences broaden the student’s world view to incorporate learning outside the classroom and support the CWU mission to hands-on learning and discovery. A few collaborations that occur annually or are of note include:
Family and Consumer Science: University Recreation provides access to the Challenge Course for students and Ryan Hopkins assists Rob Perkins (Professor of Leadership and Family and Consumer Science) in the instruction of RT300 – Challenge Course Facilitation & FCSG 220/RT 302 – Leadership and Human Development.
Students in the RT381 Sports Management class facilitate a special event for University Recreation each fall. Students receive class credit for volunteering at University Recreation events throughout the quarter and their final class project is hosting one special event.
Department of Nutrition Exercise and Health Sciences (NEHS): University Recreation currently collaborates with the Peer Nutrition program to provide members with important health and nutrition information while allowing nutrition majors an opportunity to earn credit while sharing their expertise with members.
NEHS: University Recreation works directly with the EMT Club to provide essential emergency response for the Recreation Center and Collegiate Sport Club programs. This relationship allows Paramedic and EMT student with an opportunity to have hands on experience serving as standbys for University Recreation events and programs.
NEHS & Family and Consumer Science: University Recreation provides internship and practicum experiences for students throughout the year. These experiences are coordinator by University Recreations’ facility supervisor and are overseen by professional staff within University Recreation that works with students to create objectives and outcomes designed to meet the student’s educational goals (Examples include: RT 490, EXSC 490-003, & EXSC 490-005).
