New Beginnings at CWU University Recreation

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – This fall, Central Washington University students will benefit from a significant expansion of university recreational facilities. Two members of the staff of CWU University Recreation have been selected to help direct and oversee new opportunities that will become available.

Michael Montgomery, formerly the assistant director of Operations, has been promoted to associate director, while Alex Lee, who had served as Sport Clubs and Camps coordinator, will now be the Indoor Recreation Operations and Camps coordinator.

“With their previous experience here, Michael and Alex will enable the department to quickly, and successfully, help our department adjust to what we can do with and through these expanded and enhanced facilities,” enthused CWU University Recreation director Matthew Boyer.

The changes include new, lighted outdoor track that will allow for significant growth in outdoor activities, and provide a safe, protected space for students to recreate at night

Montgomery, who started with University Recreation in 2008 as a graduate assistant, notes he was thrilled about his expanded role, and the timing of it since, “Many of our projects and initiatives, like the new track, are about to come to fruition. It’s exciting to be able to provide--these and future opportunities--in my new capacity.”

Lee also joined University Recreation in 2008. After leaving to earn his master’s degree at Pittsburg State, he returned to the CWU Recreation staff in 2016.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming all the new and returning students back to campus and to work with more of them on a daily basis,” Lee said. “I’m also thrilled about the opportunity to launch the new nighttime programming we can provide.”
