When CWU facilities management crews began repairing a concrete pad at the SURC's south loading dock, a gas line separated, necessitating a brief evacuation. The City of Ellensburg Fire Department was dispatched, the gas line was shut off, and fresh air was circulated throughout the building, to ensure the safety and health of the occupants. The building was reoccupied at 11:00 a.m. CWU’s Facilities Management Department will finish removing the concrete and then the city will repair the pipe and turn the gas back on. The dining facilities at the SURC were minimally affected—only one grill and the deep fat fryers operate on gas. The kitchens still have electric and steam cooking capabilities.
