The Wilderness Medical Training Center and Outdoor Pursuits and Rentals (OPR) present a rigorous Wilderness First Responder Certification course available and open to everyone.
This course is split into two parts, the first includes online study sessions followed by weekly tests participants must pass in order to move on to part two of the course. These lessons include how to deal with emergency situations such as splinting a broken femur or broken arm, dealing with head injuries and more. Participants must complete the online sessions before part two of the program begins. Online courses begin Friday, May 2.
Part two of the program includes a five-day hands on training course from Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20. This portion of the training will include teaching students how to deal with potential hazards that may occur in the wilderness. Participants will earn their Wilderness First Responder certification upon completion of both parts of the course. Recreation majors may earn a practicum credit through this course.
Pre-registration is required by Friday and the cost is $579 for CWU students, $589 for CWU faculty and staff and $599 for the public. The fee covers all instructional materials, course supplies and certification upon completion of course requirements.
