It’s one thing to know the history of the civil rights movement in America, it’s another to see it happen. Selma, an Oscar-winning film, won 55 of the 74 awards it was nominated for. It is a dramatic chronicle of Martin Luther King's campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965.

Why it’s worth seeing: It is a profound and intense telling of a pivotal point in the civil rights movement, an important part of American History.

For fans of: “Unbroken” and “Foxcatcher.”
