Course of Study: Please review the Mental Health Counseling Course of Study Fact Sheet to see a breakdown of which quarter you will take specific courses as a student in the MHC program.
Statistics Requirement: We require two background statistics courses for admission to the MHC program. You may take these courses concurrently with graduate courses. However, we strongly encourage you to take these courses (or their equivalents at other institutions) before you begin the MHC program. If you have not taken them, you must take them during your first two quarters, and this adds a good deal of work to your already busy schedule. Often students move to Ellensburg during the summer before graduate school starts. This is an ideal time to take at least one of these two statistics courses. Please note that PSY 363 is offered only face-to-face in Ellensburg.
If you have taken introductory and intermediate statistics at a different institution, you may submit syllabi from those courses. Faculty here will decide whether they fulfill the requirements and we will let you know as soon as we can. Contact the MHC Program Director for more detail.
Other Recommended Undergraduate Background Courses: Students come to the programs with a variety of backgrounds and training. We recommend undergraduate students take the following psychology courses: personality or abnormal; social or developmental; learning; physiological; multicultural issues in psychology; and a course in history and systems of psychology. Students not having these courses should expect to do additional work when background material is needed.
Background Check and Liability Insurance: All MHC students are required to get fingerprinted and have a background check. All MHC must carry liability insurance; this can be obtained through the university Both these tasks are done at the beginning of fall quarter when students begin the program; these requirements have a cost to the student.
