Why health careers at CWU?

How do pre-health programs work? Students choose a major at CWU they wish to complete. Some majors are more closely aligned with the prerequisite courses for many graduate programs.

While CWU offers all of the necessary prerequisite courses for pre-health programs, it does not offer majors or degrees in pre-health.

Students going into a health career will usually have to complete courses in the following areas: Biology; Chemistry; English; Math; Physics; Psychology; and Statistics.

CWU is connected with a variety of health-related community programs that offer skill-training for students.

CWU Health Careers

A lot is happening in the world of health care. There are hundreds of health career opportunities, and the need for specific types of occupations can be quite different in urban versus rural locations, in different areas of the nation, or globally. Health career students can research workforce needs in locations they are interested in living. The Health Careers program at CWU helps students seeking a career in a health related field an opportunity to make an academic plan early in their education. The most common careers in health are physicians, dentists, and nurses. But there are hundreds more careers that provide direct health care and many more occupations that are essential in the effort to maintain the health and condition of the human body.

Hands-on Learning

Central’s commitment to hands-on learning, discovery and individual attention takes students beyond the limits of the classroom and books. At Central, we encourage students to get invovled in clubs and organizations to network and experience their field of study up close and personal. Health career students have many clubs to choose from.

Points of Pride

Central Washington University ranked fourth in the state of Washington in 2016 for offering the best quality for the price, according to Washington Monthly magazine.
