PORTLAND, Ore. — The Central Washington University women's soccer team, which has won five of its last six games and has moved into second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings, has been named the GNAC Team of the Week.
The Wildcats defeated both Seattle Pacific University and Simon Fraser University this past weekend, earning a 1-0 win over the Falcons on Thursday and a 4-1 victory against the Clan on Saturday. CWU is now 7-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in conference matches.
Senior Tarah Duty (Black Diamond/Tahoma HS) scored the only goal of the game against SPU at the 13th minute, and sophomore Amanda White (Maple Valley/Tahoma HS) made two saves in posting the shutout win over the Falcons -- just the third series win for CWU in 25 all-time meetings between the two schools.
On Saturday, junior midfielders Danielle Brandli (Bellevue/Interlake HS) and Savanna Moorehouse (Bonney Lake) scored two goals apiece as the Wildcats completed a season sweep of SFU with a three-goal victory. Moorehouse also had an assist, while fellow junior Hadli Farrand (Ellensburg) was credited with two assists.
Brandli and Moorehouse are tied for the team lead with six goals apiece this season, while Duty has one goal and six assists as a defender.
The Wildcats, who are in search of a first-ever berth in the GNAC Tournament, will play five of their final six matches of the season away from home, beginning with visits to Montana State University Billings and Northwest Nazarene University this Thursday (Oct. 17) and Saturday (Oct. 19), respectively.
