Primate Relationships Are Messier Than We Thought, New Research Suggests

The social relationships of nonhuman primates, and the ways in which social dominance is achieved, maintained, and perceived, are more complex than scientists have traditionally assumed, according to new research published this week in Scientific Reports.  . . .

Jessica Mayhew, a co-author of the study and an assistant professor of anthropology and museum studies at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, said the new paper is highlights the fact that social context matters for social animals.
