I. At 8:30 a.m.: Deb Schriber-Barkley re: Sexual Harassment Training
Ms. Schriber-Barkley explained that she, Jack Baker, Dennis Defa, Sherer Holter, and Staci Sleigh-Layman have worked together to develop a proposal to implement the mandatory sexual harassment and employment discrimination training that is required in the Training and Development Policy (Part 2-2.75) for all Central Washington University employees. The purpose of the training is to educate and protect our students, faculty, staff, and administrators by helping them recognize and avoid discriminatory behaviors. The training will be provided in at least two formats: classroom and on-line. The benefits of using the New Media Proprietary Program include: the training can be customized to meet the needs of the university, New Media Learning is responsible for data storage and all updates and maintenance, the student version is free, and it is very consistent. All employees go through the same training. Ms. Schriber-Barkley added that several folks have taken the on-line training and it takes about an hour and a half to complete. The group hopes to roll out the program in January 2009. Dr. McIntyre suggested that this be rolled out as professional development with incentives. Mr. DeShields added that communicating to folks that this is a set of core competencies that they will gain here at CWU is another way to guarantee buy in. Cabinet members agreed that the proposal should be presented to President´s Advisory Council as well to get their feedback. Ms. Schriber-Barkley will work with Ms. Dawson to schedule a presentation in October.
