8:30 a.m. - President´s Office (Barge 314)
Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Wayne Quirk, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Ellen Hall, Shelly Johnson
I. At 9:00 a.m.: Alan Smith - phone call
Mr. Smith joined the group by phone to discuss some personnel issues.
I. Action Items
1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from September 17, 2008
Motion to approve the Cabinet Minutes from September 17, 2008 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Hall. No further discussion. Motion carried.
III. Discussion Items
1. Enrollment Planning for winter and spring
The fall mini stats were reviewed and discussed. Enrollment numbers look good. Goals for winter and spring quarters were discussed. A new matrix for winter and spring enrollment planning will be developed. The matrix will be more general and have short-term and long-term issues separated. Web based classes and the University Centers will be well promoted for winter and spring. Dr. Quirk has charged a committee with coming up with an academic plan. They will be working on this plan for the next couple of months.
2. Innovation Park
Mr. Corona is in contact with the USDA to see what kind of rural community grants are available for start up money. He, Roger Fouts, and Kevin Nemeth will be meeting with these folks tomorrow.
3. Victor Moore Memos
Cabinet members reviewed and discussed the latest memos from the Office of Financial Management. The Governor is requesting that state agencies, including higher education, find additional savings to offset revenue losses this biennium. Dr. McIntyre reported that we will continue to enforce our current procedures for travel, hiring, and personal service agreements.
4. Economic Development Group membership
The Economic Development Group Board sent out a notice about CWU´s representative to the group. Dr. McIntyre suggested that it be a Cabinet level person since we will soon be in transition mode. The group agreed that the president should be the university representative to this group.
5. Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce general membership meeting
The group agreed that Ann Anderson should continue as CWU´s representative to the Chamber. Mr. Corona will attend the annual lunch on October 30.
6. Catalog format - Dr. Quirk (item was tabled 9/17/08 in order for Dr. McIntyre and Dr. Street to be present for the discussion)
Dr. Quirk explained that the deans are adamant that the catalog be organized by college and then alphabetic within colleges. Dr. Tullos will check with Tracy Terrell to see how easy this transition would be. This item will be discussed again next week when Dr. Street is present.
IV. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Quirk reported that he will continue to chair the provosts group (ICAO) at least until the end of the year and possibly longer. Dr. Quirk will be in Olympia tomorrow and Friday for meetings and in Florida all of next week for a collective bargaining training conference.
Vice President for Business & Financial:
Mr. Corona reported that the COP business officers group will be meeting this fall. Mr. Corona´s counterpart at Western Washington University is retiring in December as well, so their group will have some turnover as well. Senator Murray is coming to town on October 23. Dr. Street and Mr. Corona will participate in a panel that she will be conducting. Mr. Corona stated that Cabinet members need to have a discussion and develop procedures for doing background checks for students and then decide who should conduct the checks on students. Dr. Tullos and Mr. Corona will work together on this issue.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Hall distributed the comprehensive gift campaign report. This was distributed to the Board of Trustees last Friday. The CWU Giving Club Proposal was also distributed for review and discussion. This proposal will go to the Foundation Board soon. Philanthropists of the year are Mark and Cindy Pearson. Battle in Seattle passes, parking, and other details have been distributed. Interviews for the Interim Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs begin this week. The distinguished alumni awards have been selected. They will be announced soon. Approximately 25 vendors have signed up to participate in Wildcat Alley during homecoming.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that Wildcat Alley will be a great event. It is being funded through Student Affairs and University Relations. The Fall Admissions Open House is October 25. Tickets to the football game will be purchased with private money and given out to prospective students and parents.
Chief Planning Officer:
No report. Dr. Street is out of town today.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that the COP president´s had a conference call yesterday morning. Jean Floten, president at Bellevue Community College, participated in the call. Performance agreements were discussed by the COP presidents.
V. Progress Reports
1. Accreditation
Dr. Quirk reported that everyone is gearing up for the October 13-14 NWCCU mock Accreditation visit.
