8:30 a.m. - President´s Office
Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Wayne Quirk, Charlotte Tullos, Ellen Hall, Libby Street, Bill Vertrees
I. Discussion Items
1. Enrollment Planning for Winter and Spring
Dr. Quirk gave a report on on-line courses. He had a recent discussion with United Faculty of Central (UFC) and the group came to an agreement on these courses. We have approximately 40 on-line courses available now for winter quarter. Dr. Hall added that the next step will be to get the marketing for these courses out there.
2. SURC naming issues
Cabinet members discussed naming issues with the Student Union and Recreation Center and the Samuelson Union Building.
II. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Quirk reported that the summer session budget was approved last week at the Budget Advisory Committee meeting. A non-tenure track forum was held following the Senate meeting last Wednesday. The Provost´s Office, Faculty Senate, and UFC hosted the forum, and it went well. Dr. Quirk met with Library staff recently and they are making great progress on their program review. Sabbatical applications are currently being reviewed.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that she is making hard decisions regarding funding student travel this year. Orientations for freshmen and transfers coming in winter quarter are December 1 and December 2.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Hall reported that Central Connections on air is in its final production stages. The first program will focus on Leo D´Acquisto. The Cat´s Den was a huge success this year. However, details with the food and beverages will be reworked for next year. Jim Armstrong is working on the Alumni membership drive. Enrollment marketing is in full swing. We are moving into the transition period now that the Gala events are complete. The Commercial Activities group met last week to discuss CWU´s new computer repair program.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Vertrees reported for Mr. Corona. The City of Ellensburg is having a community forum on transportation issues on November 17. Mr. Vertrees and Dr. Street are preparing a two-page document for this meeting.
Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street reported that the joint meeting with the Ellensburg City Council is Thursday, November 20 from 3:00-5:00 PM in Barge 412. The performance agreement group meets again tomorrow. Karen Bicchieri will give an update on CWU´s Climate Commitment at next week´s PAC meeting. Dr. Street will have a draft of the Washington State Quality Award ready to discuss at the Cabinet Retreat on Monday.
Administrative Operations Coordinator:
Ms. Dawson reported that the ASCWU BOD would like to have a Fireside Chat on Monday, December 1 immediately following their public meeting. Ms. Dawson will have this event added to Cabinet members´ calendars. The Cabinet Holiday Dinner will be December 6, 2008.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reminded the cabinet members to get their self-evaluations submitted as soon as possible. Cabinet members were asked to be working on possible budget cut scenarios. Dr. McIntyre thanked everyone who organized and planned the Gala. It was a wonderful evening.
III. Progress Reports
1. Accreditation
Dr. Street distributed an update on items that are still needed for Standard One. She reminded cabinet members that they will be getting these updates from all of the standards chairs. The AACSB letter of activities was recently submitted.
2. CWU Research Foundation
Dr. Quirk reported that an account was opened last Friday that marks the official start of the CWU Research Foundation.
3. Graduate Studies White Paper
Dr. Street reported that she received the latest version of the graduate white paper. Ann Anderson has reviewed the document and has offered some feedback and raised some questions. Dr. Quirk added that John Swiney provided a great deal of feedback and thought into this document as well. Dr. Street will take this information and redraft the document and then she, Dr. Quirk, and Dr. Fouts will meet again to review the document.
