Dr. Tullos added that registration for continuing students will re-open soon. Fall enrollment numbers were reviewed and discussed as well.
III. Information Items
1. Article from Currents Magazine (CASE) titled, "Making Your Campus Safer."
Dr. McIntyre distributed this as an information item for Cabinet members to share with staff in their divisions. Some of the recommendations in this article include: Focus on the risks most likely to occur on your campus; Create a culture in which everyone on campus understands that he or she has a role in health and safety; Do no fear FERPA; Do not confuse privacy under FERPA with the confidentiality rules by which medical and mental health professionals are bound; and Encourage educators to act based on their professional judgment, training, and discretion.
2. Article from Perspectives (AASCU) titled, "Delivering America´s Promise."
Dr. McIntyre distributed this as an information item for Cabinet members to share with staff in their divisions. This article emphasizes the importance of communication and understanding among all higher education stakeholders regarding mental health issues.
IV. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Quirk reported that the College of Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) will be splitting into two colleges. Approval processes are underway. A search for the dean of the one college (to be named soon) has started. CEPS faculty will participate in a retreat on July 28-29. A consultant will be there to assist them with the process of splitting the college. Dave Darda is the new Associate Dean in the College of the Sciences.
Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed a photo of the future park that will be located where Courson and Muzzall were for review and discussion. It will be a beautiful park. Human Resources is currently redoing the salary.com comparisons. Those will be available later this week.
Vice President for University Relations:
Ms. Gray reported for Dr. Hall. She reported that Dr. McIntyre will host a campaign debriefing meeting in August. Several folks, including Cabinet members, Deans, and Development Officers will be invited to attend this meeting to share feedback. Mike Smith started today as the Assistant Director of Advancement Services. The search for the College of the Sciences Development Officer is underway. The Senior Director of Gift & Estate Planning position will be filled from an internal pool.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that the Discover Orientations are going well. The number of parents attending the orientations is almost as many as the number of students attending. Thursday is the last day of the freshmen orientations. Transfer student orientations are July 28 and 30. The ACE Achievers Conference was recently held on campus, and it went really well. Dr. Tullos encouraged everyone to take advantage of the team building activities that the new Challenge Course offers.
Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street and Shelly Johnson attended a meeting in Olympia last week to discuss performance agreements. The deadline to submit the agreements is August 15, 2008. The deadline may be tweaked a bit due to the NCHEMS report, but we don´t know that for sure yet. Dr. Street will be meeting today with the Policy and Demographic Analysis Study Group and will report on that meeting next week. Dr. McIntyre´s HECB budget presentation was distributed for review and discussion. Mark Lundgren joined the group so Dr. Street could attend another meeting. Mr. Lundgren gave an update on the data warehouse issues. The time line proposed by Oracle was discouraging because it sounds like the student mapping system is still going to take 4-5 years to get in place. The Institutional Research website is currently being rebuilt. If you need something and can´t find it on their web page, please contact them.
President:
The Spheres of Distinction that were selected for 2008-09 will be announced soon. Dr. McIntyre recently toured Nicholson Pavilion. The gym looks great.
