President´s Cabinet

Wednesday, September 12, 2007
8:30 a.m. - Barge 314 (President´s Office)

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Paul Baker, Libby Street, Wayne Quirk

Guests: Nancy Howard, Staci Sleigh-Layman

I. At 8:30 a.m.: Nancy Howard & Staci Sleigh-Layman regarding the Affirmative Action Plan

Ms. Howard explained that the annual affirmative action plan has been distributed to departments. Several summaries including a 10-year comparison of minorities and women, and a utilization analysis and goals were distributed for review and discussion. Dr. McIntyre thanked Ms. Howard and Ms. Sleigh-Layman for their presentation.

II. Action Items

1. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 8/29/07
Motion to approve the Cabinet minutes from 8/29/07 as presented by Dr. Baker. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.

III. Discussion Items

1. First Peoples celebration request - Dr. McIntyre
Dr. McIntyre explained that she received an invitation for the First Peoples celebration. Dr. McIntyre cannot attend, so asked if someone could attend as her representative. Cabinet members will review their calendars and let Ms. Dawson know if they can attend.

2. Friday Fest update - Ms. Dawson
It was decided that Cabinet members will host the November 2 Friday Fest. Ms. Dawson will send a reminder email to Cabinet members and their assistants.

IV. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Quirk gave an update on faculty collective bargaining. He added that the AVP for Faculty Relations search is moving along. Phone interviews will take place next week. A map of the Gladmar Park project was displayed. Dr. Quirk explained that turning this abandoned county park into an outdoor learning laboratory promises to be a rich educational experience for CWU students and an asset to the community.

Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona circulated a draft of the campus map and the criteria and procedures for campus map updates. Facilities Management Department (FMD) is responsible for the creation and management of the campus map. Any requests for changes to the campus map must be submitted to FMD for review and approval. In accordance with RCW 28B.15, we are required to disclose tuition information to all resident undergraduate students. A statement will be added to every student´s fall quarter tuition statements. CWU´s training office will begin offering training to local and state agencies soon. Mr. Corona reminded folks to respond to the items that come through from the on line suggestion box in a timely manner.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that the event planner search in his division is moving along. A decision will be made soon. CWU is a sponsor for the Ellensburg Downtown Association festival of trees. The Crimson and Black Gala is coming up October 5. Dr. Baker reminded the group to send comments regarding the new web page to Becky Watson as soon as possible.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that Wildcat Welcome Weekend is this weekend. Several events are planned for the weekend. Movers and Shakers is this Friday, September 14. Enrollment Management will be discussed at the Board of Trustees subcommittee meeting October 5. Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is holding an all day retreat tomorrow.

Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street reported that she is working with a group to prepare for the Moody bond-rating visit in October. She added that she will be going to MSU-Billings and Portland Art Institute for Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) mock visits soon. Dr. Street, Mr. Corona, and Ms. Johnson are currently working on the budget presentation for the October 5 Board of Trustees meeting. A group has been meeting regularly to work on the communication plan for the demolition of Courson and Muzzall Halls.

President:
Dr. McIntyre received an Invitation for the Everett Community College building opening and cannot attend. Dr. Quirk will see if Margaret Badgley can attend as CWU´s representative. Dr. McIntyre distributed several miscellaneous items and mail pieces for Cabinet members to follow up on. Dr. McIntyre is attending the Governor´s P-20 Council meeting tomorrow in Olympia. Council of Presidents´ (COP) staff are here today. They will meet with Cabinet members, the business affairs group, and then the academic affairs and student affairs group.

V. Progress Reports

1. Accreditation update:
Dr. Street reported that the self-study template has been agreed upon and will be distributed to departments soon.

2. Campaign
Dr. Baker reported that the comprehensive campaign is moving along. RSVP´s for the Crimson and Black Gala are coming in.

3. Residence planning
Mr. Corona and Dr. Tullos are working on planning for the residence halls. They are making some great progress.

Dr. Baker: CWU Football game and hospitality tent, Development Ice Cream Social, Gallery One Board meeting, Legacy Society Lunch

Dr. Street: No report. Dr. Street was on vacation last week

Dr. Quirk: CWU Football game
