I. Action Items
1. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 9.26.07 and 10.10.07
Motion to approve the Cabinet minutes from 9.26.07 and 10.10.07 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Soltz. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. Discussion Items
1. USA Today - Call for nominations: All-USA College Academic First Team
Dr. Soltz and Dr. Tullos will work together on this nomination.
2. Washington State Quality Award - Dr. Street & Dr. Soltz
Dr. Street explained that this is a Washington state award that uses the Baldridge criteria. Universities are required to submit their nominations by 2008. Dr. Soltz and Dr. Pellett will work with Phil Backlund on CWU´s submission. A training session will be held in December or January and it was decided that Dave Soltz, Libby Street, Tracy Pellett, Phil Backlund, and Mark Lundgren will attend this training.
3. COP Announcement - Carolyn Sundby Retirement
Mr. Corona announced that Carolyn Sundby is retiring after 16 years with the Council of Presidents´ Office. Her retirement celebration is on December 7, 2007. Since we have a Board of Trustees meeting that day, it was suggested that possibly Ann Anderson could attend as CWU´s representative.
4. Friday Fest, November 2 - Ms. Dawson
Ms. Dawson gave an update on this week´s Friday Fest. Grupe Center will be open around 3:00 p.m. Please have folks in your divisions bring food over by 4:30 p.m.
5. CWU Home Page - Dr. McIntyre
Dr. McIntyre asked if there was any way to have the new home page fill the whole page instead of showing the grey space at the bottom. Mr. Corona will follow up with Carmen Rahm on the issue. Overall, the new page looks great.
6. Request for a campus clock
Dr. Street explained that Dr. McIntyre received a letter from four emeritus professors asking if they could work with Bill Vertrees to discuss the possibility of a campus clock being located at Black Hall. Mr. Corona will follow up with Bill Vertrees and have him contact this group for a meeting.
7. IEM - Dr. McIntyre
The brochures from Harvard and Bryn Mawr regarding the summer institutes have been received. Dr. Street will initiate the call for nominations.
III. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that he, Lourdes Henebry-DeLeon, Kathleen Barlow, and Meghan Miller will attend a reburial on Friday involving six tribes. The One Book One Campus group is gearing up for next year. They would like to start looking at books for next year´s theme: "A Life in Balance." The NCATE letter arrived yesterday. We have continuing accreditation with conditions for two years. Two people will be interviewed for the Acting Dean of CEPS position. The HECB meeting on the Master Plan went okay. The board seemed receptive to the input.
Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that CWU had a very successful visit with Moody´s Bond Rating Service last week. The pre-bid walk through of Courson and Muzzall Halls is this week. Approximately 150 requests have been received for the capital list solicitation. The requests are currently being reviewed. Business and Financial Affairs has a division meeting this Friday. The HRSA upgrade went very smoothly. Open enrollment for benefits is going on right now.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that the foundation board meeting went very well. The board approved increasing the spending rate to 5%. They also approved a $100,00o pledge for athletic scholarships/$25,000 for four years. The next meetings are January 25, 2008 at Safeco Field and May 9 at one of the University Centers. The Alumni board met Saturday. The Homecoming Awards Banquet went very well. Dr. Baker reminded the group that the fall quarter Fireside Chat is Monday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
Mr. Champagne reported for Dr. Tullos. Fall admissions numbers were distributed for review and discussion. Eight CWU employees are presenting at NASPA this week. Homecoming events were very successful. A number of events are scheduled for the remainder of the quarter. The "Go to Class" campaign is going well.
Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street reported that she recently conducted a 5-year interim visit at Pacific Northwest College of the Arts. It went very well. NWCCU accreditation is coming along. A letter from Jeri will be distributed soon asking for a progress report on how the Spheres of Distinction money was spent. Staci Sleigh-Layman and Katrina Whitney are working on the "Women in the Game": A Celebration of Women´s Sports.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that the publicity packet for the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) has been received. The snapshot report looks good.
IV. Progress Reports
1. Accreditation - NWCCU accreditation is coming along. The ABET group has a training coming up. Dr. Soltz will follow up and see if Tracy Pellett or Ethan Bergman can attend. Jeri would like to have a report come to Cabinet soon regarding all of the accreditations coming up.
2. Enrollment Planning - Mr. Champagne reported that there are several enrollment-planning initiatives in the works.
3. Campaign - Dr. Baker reported that the goal is coming along.
4. Commencement Speaker - Dr. Baker reported that he is hoping to confirm Doc Hastings as the Eastside commencement speaker soon. Several individuals for the Westside commencement speaker are still being pursued.
