President’s Cabinet

Wednesday, May 30, 2007
8:30 a.m. – Barge 314 (President’s Office)

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Paul Baker, Libby Street

I. Discussion Items

1. Performance Agreement Symposium (July 12-13) - Dr. Street & Dr. Soltz
Dr. Soltz reported that the House of Representatives Higher Education Committee is holding an Accountability and Performance Agreement Symposium July 12-13, 2007. Dr. Soltz, Dr. Street, and Ann Anderson will be attending this symposium as CWU’s representatives.

2. Follow up on Rob McKenna visit TODAY, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
The group finalized several items to discuss with AG McKenna during his visit. Mr. McKenna will meet with Dr. McIntyre, Cabinet members, and then the ASCWU Board of Directors.

3. Follow up on Ann Daley visit – June 5, 2007
The group discussed the proposed agenda for Ann Daley’s visit. She will meet with Dr. McIntyre, have lunch with Cabinet members, and then have a tour of campus.

4. Cabinet summer vacation schedules/Cabinet Retreat
Cabinet members submitted their summer vacation schedules. The group agreed to hold their summer Cabinet Retreat on Wednesday, July 11. Ms. Dawson will confirm on calendars and will follow up soon with location and more details.

5. BOT planning The group discussed the agenda for the June 8 Board of Trustees' meeting. The morning committee schedule was revised slightly. Ms. Dawson will forward the revisions to Ms. Miller.

II. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported on the items that he will be discussing with the board academic affairs subcommittee. He attended the HECB meeting last Thursday and chaired the External Diversity Council last Friday at CWU-Lynnwood. Attendance at the External Diversity Council meeting was low, but discussions were very good and there was a lot of information sharing. Summer session numbers look really good.

Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that an AG will be visiting campus soon to discuss copyright issues with select individuals from the university community. Mr. Corona met with Pat Notter yesterday to discuss CWU’s budget process. The meeting went very well.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reminded the group that the alumni event for graduating seniors, "Farewell for Now," is today. Over 100 students will be attending the lunch. Development is working on an event at the Glass Museum in Tacoma for sometime in August. More information on this event will be forthcoming.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that freshmen admissions closes this Friday. We are up 22 in applications from this time last year. A questionnaire is currently being distributed at the University Centers asking students for input on how they might get more involved in activities at the centers. The ASCWU BOD has submitted some changes to the S&A guidelines. Dr. Tullos will report back on this soon.

Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street asked who was drafting the introductions for the commencement speakers. Dr. Baker will have one of his writers draft something and send it around for review. Kathryn Young, Senator Murray's DC staffer, will be here today. The Economic Impact Study brochure is close to completion. The Web Office is working on an online bulletin board for people to make suggestions to Dr. McIntyre. The goal is to have it up and running by fall quarter.

President:
Dr. McIntyre met with the deans and the Provost yesterday. It was a very useful meeting. The Provost suggested doing this twice a year.

III. Progress Reports

1. Alcohol Policy - Where are we at?
Dr. Tullos reported that the policy is currently being reviewed and revised.

2. Climate Commitment
Dr. Street and Bill Vertrees are working on CWU's commitment issues.

3. Tuition Waiver Fee data
Dr. Tullos and Dr. Quirk will gather this information and submit it to Dr. McIntyre in the next couple of weeks.

4. Data warehouse
Mr. Corona will follow up on the data warehouse and have Mark Lundgren and Carmen Rahm present to Cabinet sometime this summer.
