President's Advisory Council

8:30 a.m. - President's Office

Dr. Soltz will preside. Dr. McIntyre is in Washington, DC meeting with federal legislators this week.

Present: Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Paul Baker, Libby Street

I. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from 2.28.07

Motion to approve the Cabinet Minutes from 2.28.07 as presented by Dr. Tullos. Seconded by Dr. Baker. No further discussion. Motion carried.

II. Discussion Items

1. 1. Faculty Expert List - Dr. Street
Dr. Street explained that our federal legislative consultants asked for a list of faculty experts that could be called on to provide testimony on federal issues. The list was distributed for review and discussion. Dr. Street will forward this preliminary list to Tim Peckinpaugh this week.

2. Resource Directory - Dr. Street
Dr. Street explained that in the President's Corner of the April University Bulletin, Dr. McIntyre will invite members of the university community to begin adding their information to the on line Resource Directory. It will go live once we have approximately 50 entries.

3. State Policies re: Gifts of Public Funds - Margaret Smith
Ms. Smith explained that we do not have a clear policy regarding gifts of public funds for recruiting. Mr. Corona suggested that we develop a policy and educate the university community on the procedures. It was decided that Margaret Smith, Shelly Johnson, Kevin Kimball, and Bruce Porter will work together to develop a proposed policy. They will report back to Cabinet soon.

III. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz suggested that the administrative assistants in each of the divisions meet with Sherer Holter, Steve Sarchet, and Karla Shugart to offer feedback regarding PeopleAdmin. Merit process negotiations begin spring quarter. The search for the AVP for Undergraduate Studies has been narrowed down to two candidates. A decision will be made soon. Billboards highlighting CWU Centers are up all along highway 99. They look great.

Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Mr. Corona reported that there will be a public meeting regarding Courson and Muzzall Halls tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. at Hal Holmes. This is the public meeting, required by SEPA, to inform the community of the plans to take down the buildings.

Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that Keith Champagne has been accepted into the Educational Leadership Doctoral program at the University of Washington. The search for the AVP for Enrollment Management is going well. Enrollment numbers look good. We are up 136 fte for spring quarter and up 658 in applications for fall quarter. The commencement website will be available later today.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker distributed invites to the John-Michel Cousteau dinner, April 4, 2007 and the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet, May 20, 2007. Three events are scheduled for Sunday, April 15: the Alumni Board meeting, the Building Bridges Scholarship Reception, and the John Moawad Jazz Scholarship Concert. Rob Lowery begins his new position as Director of Publications on Friday, March 16.

Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reported that she attended the recent CTL meeting regarding NCATE accreditation. She added that the NWCCU accreditation report is due soon. Dr. Soltz stated that Linda Beath is currently working on this report. Dr. Street will represent CWU at the Downtown Association meeting on Friday, March 23. A group from Laramie, Wyoming will be there to discuss town and gown issues.

IV. Information Items

1. Information regarding American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment
Dr. McIntyre provided information for Cabinet to review and discuss regarding the President's Climate Commitment. The group discussed the upcoming summit meeting and who should attend. The group will follow up with Dr. McIntyre at the next Cabinet meeting.
