President´s Cabinet

Wednesday, July 25, 2007
8:30 a.m. - Barge 314 (President's Office)

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Paul Baker, Libby Street, Keith Champagne

Guests: Bill Yarwood, Bill Vertrees, Brodie Bain, Julia Egenolf

I. At 9:00 a.m.: Bill Yarwood, Bill Vertrees, & Mithun Architects of Seattle - Update on South Neighborhood Study

Ms. Bain gave a progress report on the South Neighborhood Study. She explained that this study began with the goal of developing a one-stop shop for student services located on the south end of campus. The group was also charged with deciding what to do with the Samuelson Union Building. Since there is not one building that can house all student services, they decided that student services could be divided into two categories: Business Services (Admissions, Registrar, Cashiers, Financial aid, etc.) and Student Assistance Services (Disability Support Services, Testing, Career Services, Academic Advising, etc). Two buildings/locations would be utilized for this model. The proposed options were reviewed and discussed. Ms. Bain added that during the process of studying the south neighborhood, it became important to look at north campus as well. They developed both a short and a long-term plan. Those ideas were reviewed and discussed. The committee also proposed some ideas for the Research Park and senior housing. Mr. Vertrees added that the next steps in this process include a presentation to the Board of Trustees during fall quarter. Then sometime in December or January, the committee will come back with pre-design information for Cabinet members to review. Mr. Vertrees also gave a quick update on the Dean Hall bid process. Cabinet members reviewed and discussed the process.

II. Discussion Items
