8:30 a.m. - President's Office

I. Discussion Items
1. 2007 Combined Fund Drive Campaign Leader Appointment
Dr. McIntyre explained that it is time to appoint CWU's campaign leader for the 2007 Combined Fund Drive. Mr. Corona offered to see if Karla Shugart would be willing to lead the Combined Fund Drive for one more year. Dr. Street suggested having a co-leader and then that person could take over the CFD the following year. Mr. Corona called Karla Shugart during the Cabinet break, and she agreed to lead the CFD next year as long as she had someone to pass the project on to the following year. Jeff Foy was suggested as the academic affairs person to take over. Dr. Soltz will follow up with Jeff Foy to see if he is willing to lead this drive in 2008.
2. Legislative Update
The group discussed several legislative bills. Dr. Soltz and Dr. Street will work on a draft to send to Linda Schactler today regarding the part time faculty bill. The group also discussed the upcoming budget process. Mr. Corona and Dr. Street will work with Shelly Johnson on possible scenarios and these will be discussed at Cabinet next week.
3. Board of Trustees "get-ready"
Judy Miller joined the group to discuss details of the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting at CWU-Wenatchee on Friday, March 2.
II. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that the electronic workload forms are working well. Academic Affairs continues to work on issues regarding the faculty collective bargaining agreement. Rod Younker will be on campus the end of March to assist with merit bargaining. Mid-year negotiations will begin in June. The Office of International Studies and Programs is working on updating policy/procedures for study abroad programs. The goal is to get faculty and staff to plan these trips a year or more in advance.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Mr. Champagne reported for Dr. Tullos. The Student Union & Recreation Center recently received an award for the design. The National Association for Student Recreation Centers gave Steve Waldeck an award for his work in University Recreation.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that there will be a reception immediately following the Ailey II performance on March 6. The Alumni Mariners game is May 2. Seattle will host the Chicago White Sox. The Foundation Board meeting has been changed to Friday, May 11 in Seattle.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that the Downtown Association is currently doing a membership drive. The group is being very active. Tomorrow, March 1, they will hold a State of the Downtown Address from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the old Button's building. The Campus Way Finding committee proposed some signage for on campus. The group reviewed the proposals and offered feedback to Mr. Corona. He will report back to the committee. University Recreation is asking for support from the S&A committee for a Challenge/Ropes Course. This request will be researched further to make sure liability concerns and other issues are addressed before it is approved. Business and Financial Affairs is having a team building exercise this week. They are trying to create some camaraderie within the division. Steve Rittereiser is organizing this exercise. Employees will participate in these team-building events during breaks and lunches. Mr. Corona distributed information from Steve Rittereiser regarding emergency preparedness. Cabinet will have another emergency preparedness exercise sometime in May.
Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reported that the Athletic Hall of Fame committee meets on Monday to select inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame banquet is Sunday, May 20. Dr. Street, Dr. Soltz, and Dr. Peichl attended the annual meeting of the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities last Friday.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that the Ellensburg Chamber/Rotary Auction is coming up. Dr. McIntyre attended a strategic planning session with the Economic Development Board Group last week. Roy Savoian led the group in a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis activity. Dr. McIntyre asked if the Butterfly Garden signage was going to be put up soon. Mr. Corona will follow up on this.
III. At 11:30 a.m.: Ann Anderson (phone call) regarding legislative update
Ann Anderson joined the group by phone to give an update on the week's legislative activities. The 2007-09 Operating Budget Proposals were reviewed and discussed. Ms. Anderson indicated that the budget looks pretty good for CWU. The Capital Budget still has not been released.
IV. Progress Reports
1. Topics for spring Ellensburg City Council meeting on campus
Mr. Corona has a meeting with Ted Barclay today, so will talk with him about a possible date and agenda items.
2. Department charge backs
Dr. McIntyre suggested that Dr. Soltz, Mr. Corona, and Dr. Tullos meet to discuss these issues and report back to Cabinet.
