I. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 7.25.07
Motion to approve the Cabinet minutes from 7.25.07 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Baker. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. Discussion Items
1. District Rotary Conference in April - Dr. McIntyre
Dr. McIntyre reported that the District Rotary conference is on campus April 24-26, 2008. Corwin King is the district governor, so will be presiding at this event.
2. Committee reports - Dr. McIntyre
Dr. McIntyre clarified that when end-of-year committee reports are received, a letter of acknowledgement and thank you needs to be sent back to the committee and the President´s Office should be copied. The President´s Office will only respond to the committees that report directly to the president, but copies of all reports and acknowledgements need to be on file for NWCCU accreditation purposes.
3. National Survey on Student Engagement (NSSE) Report
Dr. McIntyre distributed the NSSE report for review and discussion. She added that Mr. Lundgren is currently gathering trend data and will report back soon.
4. National Colors Day - Dr. Baker
Dr. Baker reported that CWU will be participating in National College Colors Day 2007, to be held August 31. The event will be the beginning of Wildcat Crimson and Black Fridays, supported through CWU Alumni Relations and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. CWU students, staff and alumni will be encouraged to wear clothing with the school colors every Friday.
5. NWCCU Accreditation - Dr. Street
Dr. Street reported that Phil Backlund will give an update on the NWCCU accreditation process at PAC on September 5.
III. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Quirk reported for Dr. Soltz. He stated that faculty collective bargaining is going well. The teams made a great deal of progress last Friday. The position for the AVP for Faculty Relations will be posted this week. The board members for the Research Foundation have been finalized. The members are Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Wayne Quirk, Pat Notter/Board of Trustees, Vince Bryant/Cave B Winery, and Rick Johnson/local physician.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Mr. Champagne reported for Dr. Tullos. Enrollment and housing numbers look good. Student Affairs and Enrollment Management folks are engaged in retreats and planning sessions and are gearing up for fall quarter.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed information on proportionality for the capital budget process for review and discussion. He added that the combined income for all of the auxiliaries is up this year.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker distributed "save the date" cards for the Transforming Lives Crimson and Black Gala. This event is October 5 and will kickoff CWU´s fundraising campaign. The alumni/donor event at the Museum of Glass is tomorrow, August 23. A gift of $1.2M was recently donated to CWU to use for scholarships in the Department of Psychology. Central Connections will be distributed later this week and Rapport (the Development newsletter) will be out at the end of September. The City of Ellensburg has agreed to allow CWU Banners to be hung in the downtown area. In addition, paw prints will be hung at each of the Central Transit locations and at downtown intersections as well.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that several individuals will meet today to begin planning the Moody bond-rating visit that is scheduled for October. The group will be developing the agenda and designating CWU folks to do the presentations. Some time in September there will be another big review of the housing plan with Susan Musselman. Email notifications for this meeting will be distributed soon. The Dean Hall bid has been awarded to Lydig Construction. All minor works projects have been approved by the state. CWU clothing can now be purchased at Costco. Effective September 1, 2007, payroll checks will no longer be available for pick up at the Cashier´s Office. Within the next 30 days, employees who pick up their checks at the Cashier´s Office will need to choose to have their paychecks deposited directly in to their bank account or mailed to their home address. By contract, classified union employees who currently pick up their paychecks at the Cashier´s Office will be permitted to continue this practice. There will be a retirement party for Gloria Wilson on Wednesday, August 29, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Shop entrance.
Chief Planning Officer:
Dr. Street reported that the bids for the printing of the History Book are in and are currently being reviewed. Doc Hastings will be in Ellensburg tomorrow. Dr. Street, Ann Anderson, Wayne Quirk, Kevin Nemeth, and Amy Mumma will meet with him to discuss CWU´s World Wine Program. A retirement party for Nancy Howard has been scheduled for September 26 at 3:30 p.m. in Barge Hall, room 412. A notice will be distributed to campus soon. Dr. Street reminded the group that Human Resources is requesting that all exempt employees have their current job descriptions added to the PeopleAdmin system by October 31. The Climate Commitment Proposal will be available for review soon. Dr. Street may need time with each of the division council to discuss planning. This information is crucial for the NWCCU Regional accreditation review. A draft prospectus for Headstart having a building on our campus will be coming forward soon.
Administrative Operations Cooperation:
Ms. Dawson distributed several mail pieces for Cabinet members to review and respond to. The COP staff visit has been scheduled for September 12, 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Barge 412. Once exact meeting times are confirmed, Ms. Dawson will email everyone involved in those meetings.
President:
Dr. McIntyre asked if any of the benches on campus are due to be replaced? Mr. Corona reported that there is a bench replacement process and several benches around campus are on the list for replacement. Dr. McIntyre asked Dr. Quirk to follow up with Kevin Nemeth regarding progress on the Senior Housing Program. A report will come back to the group soon. Dr. McIntyre asked that the fall Cabinet retreat be scheduled for some time in November. Ms. Dawson will start working on a date. The 2008 edition of the U.S. News & World Report: America´s Best Colleges is out. CWU is among the top public master´s degree-granting institutions in the west for the fifth consecutive year. Dr. McIntyre has been asked to speak at the Seattle Rotary Club some time this fall.
IV. Progress Reports
Dr. McIntyre would like to have a progress report on NWCCU accreditation every full Cabinet day.
