I. Action Items
1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from 11/08/06
Motion to approve the Cabinet minutes from 11/8/06 as presented by Dr. Street. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. Discussion Items
1. Honorary Degree nomination
The group reviewed and discussed an honorary degree nomination that has been received. They agreed that a Master's degree is not appropriate in this case, but that a Bachelor's Degree might be possible. This issue will be researched further before a decision is made.
2. Posthumous Degree request
Dr. Soltz and Dr. Tullos reported that a posthumous degree has been awarded to a CWU student that recently passed away.
3. Emergency Closure issues
The procedures for the recent emergency closure at the university centers were reviewed and discussed. It was suggested that a policy statement be drafted that is specific to the university centers. Mr. Corona will have Human Resources craft an additional statement.
4. Holiday vacations
A calendar of Cabinet members' holiday vacations was distributed for review. Ms. Dawson will update the calendar and distribute to everyone later today.
5. Board of Trustees agenda
The December 8, 2006 Board of Trustees agenda was reviewed and discussed.
6. Legislative Analyst information request regarding CWU's 2007-09 Operating Budget request
Ms. Johnson joined the group for this discussion. The information request was reviewed and discussed. Responses were suggested. Any additional information for this response needs to be sent electronically to Dr. Street as soon as possible.
III. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that the last senate meeting of the quarter is today. They will be looking at the academic code again today due to some recent changes in the document. The minor in International Studies is moving forward. The draft HECB accountability report is out.
Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that winter quarter numbers will be available soon. They are waiting for winter quarter pre-registration numbers to shake down. There is one more orientation next week. Parent's weekend is on Mother's Day weekend this year. U.S. Bank will have a branch located in the Student Union and Recreation Center soon.
Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona stated that he thought the Fireside Chat went well. Mr. Corona, Dr. Soltz, Dr. Quirk, and Mr. Vertrees took Ken Martin and Sam Kinzer on a driving tour of north campus on Monday. Mr. Corona and Dr. Tullos will participate in a conference call on December 15 to discuss the possibilities of a new residence hall. Mr. Corona has been meeting regularly with the Ellensburg Downtown Association. They have been discussing ways to get the community and campus working together on events. Mr. Corona is testifying at the House Capital Committee meeting in Olympia tomorrow.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that the Montel Williams show featuring CWU will air on December 11. The recent alumni/donor meetings in Hawaii went very well. The next event is January 27-28, 2007 in Tucson and Phoenix. The Alumni Legislative Day in Olympia has been scheduled for February 20, 2007. Dr. Baker will report later on details as they become available. The Alumni newsletter will be going out for the first time next month. The President's Report will be going to print soon. Jack Curtright has accepted a position on the Foundation Board.
Executive Assistant for Policy and Planning:
Dr. Street distributed notes from the recent meeting regarding alumni tracking issues. The group will continue to work through the issues.
President:
No report. Dr. McIntyre did not make it back from Seattle for the Cabinet meeting due to weather conditions on the west side.
IV. Progress Reports
1. Accreditation Update
Dr. Soltz reported that a group has been selected to attend the NWCCU training in February. Our team includes: Phil Backlund, Tom Peichl, Kevin Kimball, Tracy Terrell, Tom Henderson, and Mark Lundgren.
2. Comprehensive Campaign
Dr. Baker gave an update on the campaign. Things are looking good.
