I. Action Items
1. Approval of PAC Minutes from 11/1/06
Motion to approve the PAC minutes from 11/1/06 as presented by Dr. Baker. Seconded by Dr. Dippmann. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. For the Good of the Order
Jeffrey Dippmann, Chair, Faculty Senate:
Dr. Dippmann reported that the senate executive committee meets today. They will be putting together nominations for the Distinguished Professor Awards. Nomination letters are due by December 1, 2006. At the last meeting, the Senate endorsed the academic code.
Jadon Berry, ASCWU BOD President:
Mr. Berry reported that the fall quarter Fireside Chat is November 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the SURC Pit. The BOD Officers participated in the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce Legislative Day yesterday. They were able to discuss tuition waivers with our local legislators and staff.
Becky Watson, Director, Public Relations & Marketing:

Leslie Webb, Chair, Diversity Council:
Ms. Webb reported that the Diversity Council is currently focusing on the Cabinet’s response to the council’s 2006 report. The group is also focusing on the One Book, One Campus project and planning activities to coincide with this project. This week is International Education Week and all of the events have been amazing. The hoop dancing was phenomenal. There are many more events scheduled the rest of the week. Check out the website for more details.
Staci Sleigh-Layman, Chair, Exempt Employee Association:
Ms. Sleigh-Layman reported that the Exempt Employee Association recently voted on restructuring based on a representative model and it passed. The group hopes to have the restructuring in place by the first of January.
Karen Blair, Chair, ADCO:
Dr. Blair reported that ADCO met last Monday. Julie Cloninger and Dr. Soltz presented on the comprehensive campaign, and Donna Kramer talked about the services that the Ombuds Office offers. Several department secretaries also attended to learn more about the WIN WIN project.
Shelly Johnson, Director, Budget Planning:
Ms. Johnson reported that Mark Lundgren is attending a meeting tomorrow in Olympia regarding accountability measures. She will report back on this at the next PAC meeting.
Judy Miller, Board Secretary:
Ms. Miller gave an update on the items that have been received, so far, for the economic impact study.
Sherer Holter, AVP for Human Resources:
Ms. Holter reported that the 2006 Customer Service Survey for the Human Resources Department was distributed by email yesterday and several employees have already provided feedback. Changes in the PeopleAdmin workflow will be initiated soon. Ms. Holter also reminded the group that the deadline for the annual Combined Fund Drive is November 30, 2006.
Carmen Rahm, AVP for Information Technology Services:
Mr. Rahm announced that ITS will be advertising soon for Crystal Whitaker’s position. ITS is working with SAEM folks to build a new website regarding enrollment management. This past weekend’s firewall upgrade was successful. It is a major improvement to security at the university.
III. Executive Reports
1. Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Soltz reported that the selection committee for the One Book, One Campus project will reconvene to look at other nominations for next year’s book. Faculty Day is scheduled for December 4. Discussions will focus on teaching and learning and student engagement. The next Fridayfest is this Friday, November 17, at Grupe Center at 5:00 p.m. Academic Affairs has spent a lot of time this fall implementing the faculty collective bargaining agreement and have accomplished quite a bit.
2. Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs
Mr. Corona reported that he, Ann Anderson, and Jim Huckabay attended the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce Legislative day yesterday. They discussed the operating and capital budget requests. He added that the ASCWU BOD Officers did a great job discussing tuition waivers with the local legislators and staff that were there. Mr. Corona announced that Sandy Colson’s first day in Business and Financial Affairs is tomorrow. He is looking forward to having her aboard.
3. Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
Dr. Tullos reported that the PACURH conference was on campus last weekend. Approximately 350 students attended. A report on Enrollment by Gender was distributed for review and discussion. Our undergraduate students are 52.3% women and graduate students are 57% women. Dr. Tullos recently attended the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) conference. Discussions focused on leadership training, diversity, Facebook & My Space issues, and classroom behavior.
4. Vice President for University Relations
Dr. Baker reported that Julie Cloninger has completed the College of the Sciences Development Officer search. Gina Benesh was selected and will begin duties soon. Dr. Baker also commended Jen Gray on doing a great job in development efforts.
5. Executive Assistant
Dr. Street distributed the draft memo regarding the next round of Request for Proposals for Spheres of Distinction. Cabinet members reviewed and discussed the draft. The notice will be going out later this week, so any changes to the document need to be sent to Dr. Street as soon as possible. The Washington Learns report was rolled out on Monday. A group met recently to discuss alumni tracking. Some great feedback came out of this meeting. The group will move forward and will report back on progress soon. The Library Advisory Committee met yesterday to discuss university archiving issues. The Resource Directory is now ready to populate. Administrative level staff will be asked to test the site before it is opened up campus-wide.

I. At 10:30 a.m.: Mark Lundgren regarding survey data
Mr. Lundgren joined the group to discuss the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) 2006 Benchmark Comparisons. The survey was done spring 2006 and was administered by email as opposed to regular mail. This time our response rate was much better. 688 first year students responded and 678 seniors responded. Mr. Lundgren added that this was our best survey in the last four years. We are basically in line with the national level on the benchmarks.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that current donor and alumni events are going very well. Jen Gray recently attended a Planned Giving conference. She brought back information regarding national giving trends that will be very useful for our development planning. Dr. Baker will be teaching winter quarter.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that she will have data from the College Board soon regarding our current freshmen class. Student Affairs and Enrollment Management has nominated Dr. McIntyre for a National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) presidential award. Selections should be made soon.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed the Emergency Closure information. A campus-wide notice regarding the procedures will be sent out from the President’s Office soon. He also distributed a change in the Hotel/Motel Reservations procedures. Please review the document and send feedback to Kevin Kimball as soon as possible.
Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reminded the group that the deadline to sign up for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) accreditation training is December 8, 2006. The group discussed our possible team. Dr. Street, Michael Jennings, Sherer Holter, and Margaret Smith are still working on the issues with the outside employment forms. Dr. Street will report back to this group later.
