President's Cabinet

Wednesday, May 10, 2006
8:30 a.m. - President's Office

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Paul Baker, Libby Street

Guests: Shelly Johnson, Ann Anderson

I. At 8:30 a.m.: Shelly Johnson regarding procedural changes due to the PeopleSoft upgrade
Ms. Johnson explained that the upgrade to PeopleSoft 8.8 and implementing on-line requisitions will change the procedures in the Budget Office for many processes. She gave some background on the affected processes and reported that her office is working with departments to implement these changes smoothly.

II. At 9:00 a.m.: Shelly Johnson and Ann Anderson regarding preliminary budget discussions
Ms. Anderson explained that she, Rich Corona, and Shelly Johnson are going to Olympia next week to meet with OFM, Legislative, and HECB staff to discuss preliminary budget issues. The group discussed strategies for these conversations.

III. Action Item

1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from 4/26/06
Motion to approve the Cabinet Minutes from 4/26/06 as presented by Dr. Baker. Seconded by Dr. Soltz. No further discussion. Motion carried.

IV. Discussion Items

1. HECB Diversity Survey – Dr. Soltz
Dr. Soltz explained that the HECB Diversity Survey is due next week. He added that Academic Affairs folks have completed most of the survey, however, he wanted feedback from Cabinet members on some of the questions. The group reviewed and discussed the document. Dr. Soltz will submit the survey by the May 16, 2006 deadline.

2. AFROTC staff registering for CWU staff tuition waivers – Dr. Soltz
Mr. Corona will follow up with Human Resources on this issue.

V. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that Chuck McIntyre will be on campus next week to meet with the deans and to do focus groups with the students at the university centers. Academic Affairs personnel are working on phased retirement issues. Letters will be going out to students soon informing them that they need to complete basic and breadth requirements by winter quarter 2007. Dr. Soltz attended the Student Support Services 9th Annual Recognition Banquet. He welcomed the group since Dr. McIntyre was out of town that evening.

Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that he is going forward with the proposal for vehicles driving on campus malls. The ASCWU BOD Officers have been working with the City of Ellensburg to have the CWU wildcat logo added to several intersections downtown. Mr. Aronica will have an update on this soon. Jeff Rosenberry has submitted a proposal for a Community Garden. Mr. Corona and Dr. Tullos will meet and discuss how to respond to this request. The Spring Quarter Fireside Chat is on Monday, May 15 in the new Student Union and Recreation Center Pit. The new Holmes Dining Hall should open one week from today. Collective Bargaining for classified staff in Bargaining Unit I begins tomorrow.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that an alumni gathering will be held in Walla Walla on May 25 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel. The Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet is May 19 in the Student Union and Recreation Center Ballroom. The John Moawad Jazz Scholarship Concert is Saturday, June 3, at Benaroya Hall. The Foundation budget was reviewed and discussed. Dr. Baker and Dr. Soltz attended the Highline Foundation Fundraiser and sat with Lori Matsukawa of King 5 News. They talked with her about our partnerships in China and Japan and she indicated interest in doing a possible story featuring CWU.

Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos participated as a panelist for the ASCWU BOD's political rally. The event went very well. The board of directors were very complimentary of CWU administration and reported that they are very easy to work with. The Center for Excellence and Leadership's Evening of Recognition is May 24.

Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street distributed the executive intern applications and asked that everyone rank their top 3-5 and send them to her as soon as possible.

President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that Jim Sulton, Executive Director of the Higher Education Coordinating Board, will be on campus May 19.
