President's Cabinet

Wednesday, June 21, 2006
8:30 a.m. - President's Office

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Paul Baker, Libby Street, Mike Reilly

Guests: Judy Miller

I. Rich Corona & Shelly Johnson regarding the Minor Works List
Ms. Johnson and Mr. Vertrees summarized the Minor Works detail. The group reviewed and discussed the proposed list. A few minor revisions were made to the list. The one-page briefing sheets on Dean Hall Construction, Combined Utilities/Walnut Mall Utility Upgrade project, Hogue Renovation/Addition, and Science II were also reviewed and discussed. Linda Schactler is assisting with drafting these documents. These will be included in the 2007-09 request. Ms. Johnson then gave an update on the FMS upgrade.

II. Action Items

1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from 5/24/06 and 5/31/06
Motion to approve the Cabinet Minutes from 5/24/06 and 5/31/06 as presented by Dr. Street. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.

III. Discussion Items

1. Supreme Court Visit – October 18-19, 2006

Dr. Street explained that Marian Lien will be coordinating this event. However, she will need assistance with the academic portion of the event. Logistics of the visit were reviewed and discussed. It was suggested that Ms. Lien work with Barbara Hodges on the academic pieces of this event. All other details will be handled by the President’s Office. We will try to find a location in the Student Union and Recreation Center for the lunch, so students can pay for their lunches with their dining cards. The Provost will cover lunches for faculty who participate. Dr. Baker will follow up with Becky Watson to make sure we have press coverage for this event.

2. 2. Budget issues

Dr. McIntyre reported that she has reviewed the budget request letters and will discuss them with the vice presidents in their one-on-one meetings next week.

3. 3. Press Conference – June 26, 2006 regarding High Demand FTE

Dr. McIntyre explained that there will be a press conference at YVCC on Monday, June 26, to discuss CWU’s High Demand programs. Dr. McIntyre will do a welcome and introduction and then Linda Beath will discuss the funding and programs. Dr. Baker will follow up with Teri Olin in Public Relations to make sure a script is being drafted.

IV. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:

Dr. Soltz reported that Michael Jennings hosted a meeting of Faculty Human Resource Representatives and Academic Affairs’ Administrators from the other state institutions on Monday, June 19. The meeting went well.

Vice President of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:

Mr. Reilly reported for Dr. Tullos. We are at 1600 for paid freshmen for fall quarter. Freshmen admissions will close July 1. Transfer admissions will remain open. Summer quarter numbers look good. We are down slightly in FTE, but up in headcount. The summer orientations are filling up. So far, there are 974 freshmen signed up to attend. All of the freshmen orientation dates are in July. There will be two one-day transfer orientations on July 31 and August 2. Housing numbers look good. The Washington Achievers will be on campus next week.

Vice President for University Relations:

Dr. Baker reported that Jim Armstrong continues to do a great job in Alumni Relations. The first campaign steering committee meeting is August 3. The meeting will be in Seattle and hosted by Christine Day. The second proof of Central Connections is due today. The university catalog is at the printer. The Legacy Society luncheon is tomorrow in Seattle.

Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs:

Mr. Corona reported that Dining Services is having a very strong end-of-the-year. Central Marketplace has been offering all five venues. They may stagger the options during the summer. The University Bookstore has had a lot of activity the last few weeks. Contract negotiations with the staff are going well.

Executive Assistant for Policy and Planning:

Dr. Street reported that the Washington Learns report should be posted soon. The most recent discussion has been regarding the BAS degree.

Dr. McIntyre reported that tickets for the 2006-07 Performing Arts and Presidential Speaker Series are on sale now at the CWU Scheduling Center. The 2005 Washington State Combined Fund Drive Financial Report was distributed for review.
