8:30 a.m. - President's Office
Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Paul Baker, Libby Street, Keith Champagne

I. At 8:30 a.m.: Bill Vertrees & Joanne Hillemann regarding the next phase of the Nicholson Remodel project
Mr. Vertrees gave a brief historical background on the project and explained that they are ready to bid the next phase of the Nicholson Pavilion remodel. Ms. Hillemann added that this next phase will include indoor air quality and asbestos abatement. The schedule of this project is to start construction spring break and finish by Fall quarter. Cabinet will be updated periodically during this project.
II. Action Item
1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from 2/8/06
Motion to approve the Cabinet minutes from 2/8/06 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Soltz. No further discussion. Motion carried.
III. Discussion Items
1. Planning for Cabinet Retreat – March 6, 2006
Dr. McIntyre explained that the retreat agenda will focus on medium and long-range planning.
2. Budget letters
Dr. McIntyre reported that she is reviewing the one-time budget letters and will respond early next week.
3. Repair of artwork
Dr. McIntyre explained that when an art piece is damaged there is not a designated budget to handle the repairs. She suggests that each division donate $500 to an account under the Art Selection & Permanent Collection committee so that things of this nature can be handled. The group agreed that the Art Selection & Permanent Collection Committee would funnel the requests/repairs to Cabinet for approval.
4. Board of Trustees agenda – Judy Miller
Ms. Miller distributed the draft Board of Trustees agenda for review and discussion. The next meeting is March 3 at CWU-Yakima.
IV. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that the collective bargaining agreement was approved by the membership. The contract will go to the Board of Trustees on March 3. The strategic planning forums are underway. The winter quarter faculty development day is scheduled for Monday, March 13. A campus-wide announcement will be distributed soon with the details. Dr. Soltz will be attending an ICAO meeting later today at Western Washington University and a HECB meeting tomorrow. Accountability measures are the focus of both meetings.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Mr. Champagne reported for Dr. Tullos. He encouraged everyone to check out the new Recreation Center. A membership at the Rec Center is a great way to build community with other employees and students.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker asked Mr. Champagne to follow up with Dr. Tullos, John Drinkwater, and Scheduling on a couple of issues that have come up with regard to reserving rooms in the new Student Union. The Hospital fundraiser, "The Magical Evening at the Ritz" is Saturday, April 29. If you plan to attend, please let Dr. Baker know soon.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed the divisional travel reports for review. Training for the new PeopleAdmin software system will begin in March. The SUB/Rec project is coming to a close. Mr. Corona will be in Olympia tomorrow meeting with colleagues to discuss the combined capital list. The visit and tour with Doc Hastings yesterday went very well.
Executive Director for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reported that Senator Cantwell's forum on Biofuels last week was very successful. CWU was well represented. Attendance at the Strategic Planning forums has been low. A letter will be mailed to City Council members, Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce Board, Rotary Board, & Kiwanis Board today to remind them of the last two community forums. Dr. Street attended the Washington Learns Advisory meeting Monday night and yesterday.
President:
Dr. McIntyre also reported that the Doc Hastings visit and tour went well. A briefing sheet on CWU's Wine Program was distributed to Congressman Hastings and his staff. He also toured the Recreation Center. Ann Anderson, Ken Martin, and Dr. McIntyre attended a legislative dinner in Olympia on Monday. Dr. McIntyre reminded the group of the upcoming Rotary Auction. If you have suggestions on possible CWU contributions for the auction, let Dr. McIntyre know as soon as possible.
V. At 10:30 a.m.: Ann Anderson regarding legislative update
Ms. Anderson provided Cabinet members with a legislative update. The House 2006 Supplemental Budget was reviewed and discussed. Ms. Anderson added that she and Linda Schactler will be drafting a letter to budget conferees to ask them to support the budget elements we like, such as the tuition waiver funds and to oppose those we don't, such as SmartBuy cuts and the Senate energy-tuition link.
