I. Action Items
1. Approval of PAC Minutes from 7/12/06
Motion to approve the PAC Minutes from 7/12/06 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Soltz. No further discussion. Motion carried.
Approval of the CWU Foundation Scholarship Policy
Dr. Baker gave some background on the policy. He added that the goal of the policy is to assist individuals, groups, and organizations in establishing a scholarship fund with the Central Washington University Foundation. Motion to approve the CWU Foundation Scholarship Policy as presented by Dr. Tullos. Seconded by Dr. Baker. No further discussion. Motion carried.
Approval of changes to the Art Selection and Permanent Collection Committee
Dr. Street explained that the recommended changes to this committee organize it into the same format as all the other university standing committees. Members now have a 3-year term. She added that the membership has been revised at the request of the current committee members. Motion to approve the changes to the Art Selection and Permanent Collection Committee as presented by Dean Miller. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.
Approval of changes to the Diversity Council
Ms. Webb explained that the changes to the Diversity Council are just the addition of student members to the committee for one-year terms. Motion to approve the changes to the Diversity Council as presented by Dr. Street. Seconded by Mr. Berry. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. For the Good of the Order
Meghan Miller, Dean, College of the Sciences:
Dean Miller reported that Academic Affairs had a retreat last week. Discussions focused on their strategic action plan. Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management had an enrollment summit yesterday. The meeting was very useful. Dean Bowers will be the representative on PAC starting in October.
Shelly Johnson, Director, Budget Planning:
Ms. Johnson reported that her office is busy finishing up year-end details and getting budget allocations for 2007 in place. They are also responding to questions/inquiries from OFM.
Judy Miller, Board Secretary:
Ms. Miller distributed the Use of State Funds for Entertainment, Public Relations, University Promotion and Recruitment Policy for a second review. Mr. Corona made a motion to approve this policy with the understanding that some editorial changes will be made. Seconded by Dr. Tullos. No further discussion. Motion carried. The Board of Trustees' Retreat is August 3-4.
Rob Lowery, Chair, Employee Council:
Mr. Lowery reported that the Employee Council recently approved changes to the Civil Service Employees "Statement of Purpose and Operation. As revised, civil service employee groups of up to 75 members will each be represented on the council by one elected delegate and one elected alternate. Two delegates and two alternates will represent a group between 76 and 150 employees. The Campus Community Building Program gives out a quarterly award to individuals for being "Extra Special, Over-The-Top." Employee Council has decided to make this an annual award beginning fall quarter and the award will be given to an entire department instead of an individual. The Employee Council Officers for 2006-07 are as follows: Rob Lowery, Chair, Roberta Lowe, Vice Chair, Susan Adolphi, Publicity Coordinator, Sandy Sperline, Secretary, and Crystal Whitaker, Assistant Secretary.
Leslie Webb, Chair, Diversity Council:
Ms. Webb reported that the Diversity Council does not meet in the summer, but they are gearing up for fall quarter. Ms. Webb is currently working with Public Relations and Marketing on a publicity piece for the Diversity Council. A schedule of fall events will be available soon. Ms. Webb is also working with the Office for Equal Opportunity to implement a fall/winter program to support the diversity training initiative. There will be an equity and diversity reception for new students on September 28.
Becky Watson, Director, Public Relations & Marketing:
Dr. Watson reported that the Wenatchee World editor was on campus last week. The paper will be working closely with Public Relations and Marketing to do more "CWU stories." KNDO is doing a story on Casa Latino, CWU's newest residence option among the Living Learning Communities. Public Relations & Marketing recently made several changes in their procedures. Dr. Watson thanked everyone for supporting these changes. The CWU-Wenatchee Grand Opening committee has been meeting. The date has been set for Tuesday, October 17. More details on the opening will be available later. An ad hoc committee met recently to discuss the CWU homepage. Please send any feedback that you have regarding the CWU homepage to Dr. Watson as soon as possible.
Jadon Berry, ASCWU BOD President:
Mr. Berry reported that the BOD Officers were able to meet with the Governor briefly while she was on campus July 12. Planning for the CWU-Fred Meyer Night is underway. Fred Meyer will open to CWU students only on September 19 from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and will offer a 20% discount on purchases. The BOD is also working on the Battle in Seattle, the Bite of the Burg, and assisting Marian Lien with the Supreme Court Justice visit October 18-19. Tony Aronica has been appointed as the 2006-07 Student Trustee.
Jeffrey Dippmann, Chair, Faculty Senate:
Dr. Dippmann reported that the Executive Committee meets next week for the last time this summer. The 2006-07 Faculty Senate Executive Committee members are: Jeffrey Dippmann, Chair, Melody Madlem, Chair Elect, Dorothy Chase, Secretary, Greg Cant, Member-at-Large, Karen Hendricks, Member-at-Large, Jeffrey Snedeker, Member-at-Large, and Michael Ogden, Past Chair.
Carmen Rahm, AVP for Information Technology Services:
Mr. Rahm reported that ITS is working on spam filtering. There will be a two to four hour planned telecommunications outage on August 23 at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Rahm also encouraged departments to check out the WIN-WIN program. This program is designed to assist departments across campus with replacing their old computers. Contact ITS if you would like to know more about the program.
IV. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Soltz reported that Academic Affairs had a Retreat last week. Much of their effort went to working on a strategic action plan. They also did some preliminary planning for Fall Faculty Day and the One Book, One Campus project. The group decided to reinstitute the Friday Fest gatherings. These will happen twice a quarter. Academic Affairs and Student Affairs had an enrollment summit yesterday. It was a very useful information-sharing meeting. From this meeting, four work groups were constructed that will work together throughout the year on transfer issues, scheduling issues, recruitment, and financial implications.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs
Mr. Corona reported that the Barge Hall exterior project will be complete in about two weeks. Nicholson Pavilion construction is close to completion. Mr. Corona added that his office has been receiving very positive feedback on the closure of Walnut Mall to motor vehicle traffic.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
Dr. Tullos reported that today is the last orientation day. Enrollment numbers look good. Registration opens up again on August 14. We are up 333 FTE from this same time last year. Transfer numbers remain up by 82 and confirmed freshmen are up by 8 from this time last year. Wildcat Welcome Weekend is September 15-17. The Enrollment Summit between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs was yesterday and went very well. Homecoming events will be announced soon. The planning committee meets again later this week.
Vice President for University Relations
The Alumni Mariners event is August 24-25. If you are interested in attending stop by the Alumni Office and purchase your tickets. The Rodeo Bowl Brunch is September 1. The Alumni Board meets this Saturday, August 5 and the Foundation Board meets next week on August 11-12. Planning is underway for a cultivation event in Hawaii. It will coincide with the CWU Men's Basketball Team playing there in November.
Executive Assistant
Dr. Street reported that the Resource Directory is coming along and will be on line soon. The travel policy will be coming back to PAC sometime the beginning of fall quarter. The Washington Learns Higher Education Advisory Committee had their final meeting. There will be hearings around the state and a final report will be available soon. Dr. Street added that the Performing Arts and Presidential Speaker Series received great advertising at Jazz in the Valley.
President
Dr. McIntyre reported that budget letters went out. Spheres of Distinction proposals that were selected will be announced fall quarter. She indicated that the proposals were very impressive. Dr. McIntyre stated that she has received many compliments this summer on how well the campus looks and how well the orientations have gone. We really have a great program. Dr. McIntyre recently presented at the Snowmass Institute and also attended the AASCU Summer Council of President's meeting.
