President's Cabinet

8:30 a.m. - President's Office

Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Charlotte Tullos, Paul Baker, Libby Street

I. Discussion Items

1. Governor’s Questions - Dr. McIntyre
Dr. McIntyre explained that the Council of Presidents met recently with Governor Gregoire and she posed several questions for the COP to respond to collectively. The questions were reviewed and discussed. A response will be sent to Terry Teale to draft a collaborative response to the Governor.

2. CWU Survey of Latino Community - Dr. Street
Dr. Street explained that Michael Ervin sent an email on behalf of the Hispanic Commission asking permission to undertake a broad and systematic study/survey of the surrounding Latino community. The study/survey, including participation of multiple CWU offices and departments will seek to understand the diversity of the local Latino community and provide CWU with guidance regarding how best to move forward. Dr Street will follow up with Dr. Ervin to let him know that Cabinet supports the initiative and to run his request through the Diversity Council.

II. Executive Reports

Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that Rod Younker was on campus April 10 working with Academic Affairs folks regarding the implementation of the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Faculty workload forms are complete. Program review is in full swing. External reviewers for Mathematics and Music are here this week. Strategic planning is moving forward. There will be a couple of summits this summer focusing on Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The University Center coordinators are on campus this week. They will be meeting with staff, touring new facilities, and getting an update on Ellensburg campus programs. In early March, a program called Expanding your Horizons was held on campus. The program focused on Chemistry and attracted approximately 150, 13-14 year old girls. New faculty hires are very strong. The Budget Advisory Committee meets today at 10:30 in Barge 412.

Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that she will have final enrollment numbers for spring quarter soon. KNDO did a story last night and this morning on statewide enrollment. Mike Reilly did a great job explaining statewide enrollment. The Student Union will open on April 24 at noon. There are several activities planned for the entire week. The S&A Committee meets tonight. SAEM will hold a two-day assessment workshop soon.

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that planning and discussions are underway for appointing an Interim Director of Alumni Relations. University Relations staff recently held a "team building" exercise. The campaign is moving along.

Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed a draft Payment Card Security Policy for review. He added that as of June 30, 2005, VISA and Master Card Payment Card Industry Standards require all entities which handle or store credit cardholder data to comply with the Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP). This policy was drafted to ensure that CWU has sufficient guidelines and will be brought to PAC on April 19 for review. The Budget Advisory Committee meets today at 10:30 in Barge 412. Mr. Corona will open the meeting, Ms. Johnson will present the budget, and then there will be time for audience questions/comments. BFA is working on their strategic plan. The division should have a good plan that is in line with the university strategic plan by this summer.

Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reported that a draft policy regarding building and classroom security will be coming to PAC soon. A list of university personnel was distributed for review. Please review your section and email necessary corrections to Ms. Dawson. Ginger Linnell needs this information by April 21 to include in the next University Catalog. Planning for College Civics Week is underway. Secretary of State, Sam Reed, will be on campus April 25. Dr. Soltz suggested asking Jan Bowers to help with this project. The Washington Education Foundation Achievers Banquet is June 29, at 5:00 p.m. in the new Student Union. Please let Mike Reilly know if you plan to attend.

Dr. McIntyre distributed an article from The Chronicle of Higher Education as an informational item.
