I. Action Item
1. Approval of PAC Minutes from 8/17/05
Motion to approve the minutes from 8/17/05 as presented by Mr. Corona. Seconded by Dr. Soltz. No further discussion. Motion carried.
II. For the Good of the Order
Judy Miller, Board Secretary:
Ms. Miller distributed two policies for review. She is suggesting that the guidelines for the Memorial Tree/Plaques on CWU Campus be added to the procedures manual. Mr. Corona explained that he would like to discuss these guidelines with Bill Vertrees before this is added to the procedures manual. This will come back to President's Advisory Council for final approval October 5, 2005. The Children in the Workplace Policy was also reviewed and discussed. A few minor revisions will be made and then the document will be forwarded to Teresa Kulik for her review. This policy will also come back October 5, 2005 for final approval. Ms. Miller reminded the group that agenda items for the next board meeting are due to her by September 21.
Carmen Rahm, Director, ITS:
Mr. Rahm reported that Information Technology Services is ready for the return of students this weekend. He added that in recognition of Constitution Day, CWU has also developed a Web site with a wide variety of resources pertaining to the Constitution and the government it established. It's available on-line at www.cwu.edu/constitution.
Tony Aronica, ASCWU BOD President:
Mr. Aronica reported on events that are coming up. On September 20, "Bite of the Burg" and "Late Night at Freddy's" will take place. The BOD Officers are involved in several Katrina Relief Efforts. The Wildcat Transit Program will begin soon. All of the BOD officers have returned to campus. The group had their first retreat last weekend. They agreed upon and accepted a code of ethics.
Michael Ogden, Faculty Senate Chair:
Dr. Ogden reported that the Faculty Senate Executive Committee is examining the Senate's mission statement.
Keith Champagne, Chair, Diversity Council:
No Report.
Shelly Johnson, Director, Budget Planning:
Ms. Johnson reported that her department is close to having the budget in place. The allotments from OFM have not come yet.
III. Executive Reports
1. Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Soltz reported that his division is gearing up for the academic year. Fall Faculty Day is Monday, September 19. The agenda is on the Web. The Enterprise Blackboard System has been purchased. Distribution of the Tortilla Curtain has gone well. They are still negotiating with the author to come for a book signing some time during spring quarter. This Friday, September 16, is the annual Academic Affairs Staff Symposium. The CWU-Des Moines Grand Opening is October 25 from 1:30-3:30. Academic Affairs and the Office for Equal Opportunity are sponsoring a Web cast titled, "Diversifying the Faculty." It is October 25 from 10:00-12:00 and will be cast to CWU-Des Moines since a number of faculty and staff will be there that day for the grand opening. New literature for the Cornerstone Program (College in the High School) was distributed and discussed.
2. Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
Dr. Tullos reported that she recently had a conference call with the vice presidents from the other state institutions regarding Katrina Relief Efforts. Each summarized the efforts that are going on at their respective universities. Kathy Gaer-Carlton, Assistant Director of Admissions, is working with students relocating to this area from the Gulf Coast on an individual basis. Enrollment looks good. We are up 634 from this time last year. There are 1447 registered freshmen and 988 registered transfers. Centers also look good. Dr. Tullos explained that President Bush has designated September 17 as Constitution Day every year. Schools, colleges, and universities that receive federal money are required to teach about the Constitution. In recognition of Constitution Day, CWU has developed a Web site with several resources pertaining to the Constitution. The Web site serves as a resource for the university and the community. The grand opening for the Recreation Center will be January 3, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. In April, when the Student Union opens, there will be another small grand opening. Then during Homecoming of 2006 there will be a larger scale grand opening for the entire building. The Wildcat Transitions program begins this week. Approximately 37 students will be involved in this program. This Friday, Sept 16, is the beginning of Wildcat Welcome Weekend.
3. Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs
Mr. Corona reported that the Wenatchee project is going forward. Everyone is working really hard to get Sue Lombard open by Monday. Stacy Klippenstein is giving a tour of Sue Lombard this afternoon if anyone is interested in checking it out. The Student Union & Recreation Center is progressing. The Rec center is on schedule to open in January. ITS is ahead of schedule getting the campus entirely wireless. Mr. Corona reminded the group that Battle in Seattle tickets are on sale now in the University Store.
4. Vice President for University Relations
Dr. Baker reported that there will be a Katrina Relief competition between CWU and Western during the Battle in Seattle. The Katrina Relief Web site will be up soon. Richard DeShields, Associate Director of University Housing and New Student Programs, is heading up Katrina Relief efforts during Wildcat Welcome Weekend. An alumni event titled, "Shakespeare Under the Vines," will be held September 15-16 at the Cave B Inn at SageCliffe. The event will feature a Shakespeare lecture from CWU Professor Gerry Stacy, an early music lecture from CWU Professor Peter Gries, and a five course medieval dinner.
5. President
Dr. McIntyre reported that the weather finally cooperated for the annual President's Division BBQ that was held last night. Central Connections (formerly Central Today) is at the printer and is due to be distributed before Homecoming. The State of the University Address is Wednesday, September 28, in the Music Building Concert Hall at 3:00 p.m. The Blue Ribbon Commission's final report will be discussed at the October Board of Trustees meeting.

II. Discussion Items
1. Cabinet Retreat
The group agreed on October 12 for the Fall Cabinet Retreat. Ms. Dawson will schedule on everyone’s calendar and work with Suncadia on details.
2. "What's Hot" and Schedule/Resource 25 issues
Dr. Tullos will follow up with the Scheduling Center and Dr. Street on the issues involving Schedule/Resource 25.
III. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior VP for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz asked what the plans are for offering memberships to the Rec center to faculty and staff? According to Mr. Corona and Dr. Tullos, faculty and staff will be able to buy memberships, but the charge has not yet been determined.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that there will be a Pre-Battle Cocktail Rally at Swannies in Seattle on Friday, October 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Dr. Street will be doing a strategic planning session with University Relations staff on September 20. Bob Moawad, Chairman and CEO of Edge Learning Institute and CWU alum, will be giving a motivational speech to University Relations staff on Monday, October 3.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos reported that her division recently completed their strategic planning process. Dr. Street is currently tweaking the final document. The employees for the Rec Center have all been hired and will begin training soon.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that the "Wildcat Rain" water will be bottled and sold soon. Coca Cola is developing the logo now. Human Resources is working on a training program for Department Chairs. The Senior Director of Human Resources search is moving along. The goal is to have candidates on campus this fall. Bids are coming in for the Central Transit program. The program is slated to begin the first of October.
