II. Executive Reports
1. Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Soltz reported that he just returned from Central Florida where he attended two conferences. The first conference was the Academy of Academic Personnel Administrators which involved a lot of information sharing regarding collective bargaining. The second conference was the Higher Education Leadership in Technology Conference. Dr. Soltz noted that one of the most interesting facts he learned at this conference was that high-speed Internet access and virus protection are what a vast majority of students want access to at their universities. The annual reception for tenured/promoted faculty is today at 3:30 in the Lombard Room. The CWU-Des Moines Grand Opening is October 25 at 1:30. That same day, there will be a live Internet session on Best Practices in Recruiting and Retaining Diverse Faculty. This Interactive Web cast will be in the Library, room 153 and also broadcast to CWU-Des Moines, room 109
2. Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
Mr. Reilly reported for Dr. Tullos. There are Homecoming activities happening every day this week. Several staff members from Student Affairs & Enrollment Management will be attending the CWU-Des Moines Grand Opening. Since a number of these staff members have never been to the center, they will be having a staff retreat while they are there. The Fall Open House for prospective students is October 29. SAEM is working with Academic Affairs in the transition of Summer Session moving to Continuing Education. Enrollment Management will continue to do the registration piece and Continuing Education will do the marketing and will work with academic departments on class offerings.
3. Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs
Mr. Corona reported that yesterday's performance of the Harlem Gospel Choir was such a huge success that we ended up being close to capacity in the Music Building Concert Hall. Mr. Reilly and Ms. Webb offered to work with Steve Rittereiser regarding the issues that evolved due to this popular performance so that we can be better prepared in the future. The Search for the AVP for Human Resources is coming to an end. Candidates will be on campus beginning next week. An announcement and the open forum schedule will be distributed soon.
4. Vice President for University Relations
Dr. Baker reported that the Foundation Board meets this Friday and the Alumni Association Board meets Sunday. In addition, the Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet will be Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the SUB Chavez Room. The most recent publication of Central Connections was distributed.
5. Executive Assistant
No report. Dr. Street is in Olympia today attending the Washington Learns meeting.
6. President
Dr. McIntyre reported that she will be attending the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meeting this weekend in Seattle. Two issues being discussed at this meeting include: reorganization due to Humboldt State moving to an athletic conference in California and strategies for recruiting other schools into the conference. With Humboldt State leaving, only nine schools remain in the conference now. This will cause a slight inconvenience in scheduling games. Presidents will also discuss a petition banning alcohol advertisements on television and radio. Dr. McIntyre attended a debriefing meeting on the Battle in Seattle yesterday. The meeting last week with Senator Murray regarding Economic Development was very successful. Many community members and university employees attended the roundtable. Ken Baxter, Libby Street, Kevin Nemeth, and Dr. McIntyre met earlier this week to discuss reviving a Senior Program (Elderhostel) on campus. Discussions regarding this program will continue. During the Cabinet meeting today, Art DePalma, Bob Trumpy, and Christine Frankenfield will give a summary of the Disaster Preparedness Forum that was held on campus October 13. PAC will receive a summary of this discussion at a later date.

I. At 10:30 a.m. – Bob Trumpy, Art DePalma, & Christine Frankenfield re: Disaster Preparedness Forum
Mr. Trumpy introduced Dr. DePalma and Christine Frankenfield. He then explained that he and several others from CWU recently attended a Disaster Preparedness Forum that was facilitated by the Kittitas County Emergency Management Council, Kittitas County Public Health, and hosted by CWU’s Department of Health, Counseling, and Wellness. Ms. Frankenfield summarized the information in the packets and highlighted issues discussed at the forum. Dr. DePalma gave an overview of the virus and reminded the group of basic health habits to practice during the flu season (e.g. avoid close contact with sick people, stay at home when you're sick, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, wash your hands often, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, etc.). Mr. Trumpy explained some of the potential threats (general), direct threats/impact on CWU, possible recommendations, and current preparedness and reserves. Dr. McIntyre thanked the group for their presentation. Ms. Frankenfield added that there will be another community forum addressing this same topic on October 27, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Hal Holmes Center.

III. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that the Academy of Academic Personnel Administrators Conference that he recently attended was very useful and interesting. It was basically an information sharing session regarding collective bargaining. The second conference he attended was the Higher Education Leadership in Technology Conference. He added that listening to the student sessions at this conference was very interesting. Students clearly expect high-speed Internet access and virus protection at their universities. Another interesting fact was that even though this is the technological age, students still want community.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona distributed an update on the financial statements and a copy of an article that will be in the next Observer. The article outlines new student services that are being provided and addresses dining concerns. Mr. Corona reminded the group of the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce Legislative Day. It is November 14 at the Hal Holmes Center. CWU's portion of the agenda is from 3:15-4:00 p.m.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:

Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reminded the group that the Court Advocates for Children Appreciation Dinner is December 11 at the Dakota Cafe. Cabinet members are to let Dr. Baker know if they want to attend. Leadership Ellensburg starts this Friday, and Dr. Baker is attending as the CWU representative. Replacements for the Campaign Planning Guide were distributed.

President:
Dr. McIntyre asked Mr. Corona to arrange to have Steve Rittereiser attend the Cabinet Retreat on October 26 to give an update on the emergency preparedness plan.
