8:30 a.m. - President's Office

I. At 8:30 a.m. in Barge 412 (for 15-30 minutes) - Cabinet Photo Shoot
The Cabinet met in Barge 412 for a group photo and then returned to Dr. McIntyre's Office for the remainder of the meeting at 9:00 a.m.
II. Judy Miller, Scott Leadingham, Ann Anderson re: RFP's for Federal Legislative Consultant
The group discussed the Federal Legislative Consultant RFP's that were received. The next step will be to do reference checks on the semi-finalists.
III. Action Items
1. Approval of Cabinet Minutes from November 9, 2005
Motion to approve the minutes from November 9, 2005 as presented by Dr. Soltz. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.
IV. Discussion Items
1. Long-term space requesting - Dr. Street
Dr. Street distributed the Protocol for Long-Term Space Requesting and explained that two revisions were made to the document since the group last reviewed it. She added that this issue will be an on-going discussion and the process will be reviewed again in six months.
2. Archives - Dr. Street
Dr. Street reported that it has been suggested that Dieter Ullrich, University Archivist, attend division/department meetings to discuss archive issues. We need to be certain that departments are storing records properly.
V. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior VP for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reminded the group that Faculty Development Day is Monday, December 5. A portion of the meeting will be dedicated to discussion of the Academic Affairs Strategic Plan. The Provost and Deans will begin working with first and second year faculty on scholarship assessment soon. Dean Morgan and Lois Breedlove are currently working on a Student Media Board Charter. Class size comparisons from 1999-2000 & 2004-2005 were distributed for review.
VP for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos distributed information regarding memberships for faculty and staff to the new Recreation Center. A notice will also be posted on the Intranet. The Recreation Center opens in 34 days. Gary Guller, the first disabled person to summit Mt. Everest, will be on campus this evening. His presentation will focus on leadership, overcoming adversity, and the ability to raise a person's positive energy. The presentation is at 7:00 p.m. in Hertz Hall Auditorium. The 30th Annual Ware Fair starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday, December 3. Santa will be available for pictures from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 in the SUB Pit. Parent’s/Family weekend is February 24-26, 2006. Orientation for new freshmen coming in winter quarter is tomorrow and transfer student orientation is December 8. A complete review of all Student Affairs & Enrollment Management programs will take place next quarter.
VP for University Relations:
Dr. Baker distributed the insert featuring Bruce Palmquist as Washington's Professor of the Year. Showdown in the Sound plans are underway. A meeting will be held tomorrow to discuss final details and promotion of the event (December 17, 2005). Several alumni events are coming up. The first event is January 20-21, 2006 in Phoenix. Two more events are being finalized in Walla Walla and the Tri Cities for sometime in March, but exact dates are not available yet. Development is currently working on an end of the year mailing regarding the Central Pillars Fund. It will be mailed in early December.
VP for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce recently highlighted CWU-Des Moines Center on their front page. A proposal from the Washington Music Educators Association was reviewed and discussed. Mr. Corona will prepare a response and report back to Cabinet later. The inclement weather information is being revised and will be distributed to the university community soon. Business & Financial Affairs will be having their staff retreat on December 15. Sherer Holter, has accepted the position of Assistant Vice President for Human Resources. She will begin January 3, 2006. Mr. Corona reminded the group that today is the last day to change your benefits.
Executive Assistant for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street reported that she attended a Washington Learns Higher Education meeting yesterday. Some of the issues discussed were transition in all of the schools, running start, college in the high school, and remediation. A document summarizing issues and recommendations related to student and employee travel at CWU was distributed for review. The Ad Hoc Travel Policy Committee was asked to review our current policies and make suggestions to the Cabinet. Dr. Street asked the group to review this document and be prepared to discuss it in January. Members of the committee will be invited to Cabinet some time in January to discuss these issues.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that she hosted the annual dinner with the ASCWU Board of Directors last night and it went very well. Dr. McIntyre also reported that she is in charge of the Rotary programs next week and the following week. Steve Rittereiser will be presenting on December 7 and Marji Morgan will present on December 14.
