8:30 a.m. - President's Office

I. At 8:30 a.m. - Carmen Rahm re: CWU Technology Appropriate Usage Policy
Mr. Rahm explained the there is only one change in the policy. They would like to add a section regarding data network connections that states:
Devices which extend the network such as but not limited to hubs, switches, bridges, routers and access points or computers functioning as such may not be connected to the CWU data network. Such devices are connected by the Networks and Operations department within Information Technology Services only. Users (students, faculty, and staff) may connect computers and printers to the CWU network.
The group approved the addition to this policy. It will now go to President's Advisory Council for final approval.
II. Discussion Items
1. Forum to discuss university plans - Dr. Street
Dr. Street summarized the outline for the master plan forum. The date is still being ironed out. Ms. Dawson will work with the vice president's administrative assistants to find a date. The forum will be held in the SUB Ballroom. Please send VP's 4-5 slides to Dr. Street by Friday, May 27 and she will prepare one PowerPoint for the entire forum presentation.
2. Budget update
The Cabinet discussed issues of the upcoming budget process. Dr. McIntyre reminded the group that their division budget requests are due to her by June 6.
3. Centers of Excellence - recommendations from all divisions
Dr. McIntyre reminded the group to get their recommendations to her by next week.
III. Distribution Items
1. US News & World Report - National Survey of Student Engagement:
Dr. Street will work with Mark Lundgren on this and report back to Cabinet next week.
IV. Executive Reports
Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Dr. Soltz reported that his division is working summer schedules so they can finalize meeting times for the summer. Dean Savoian is going to the East-West Center this summer and Dr. Beath is attending to Bryn Mawr. Work continues on strategic planning and areas of distinction. They are looking at several different models for faculty development. The review of the tenure and promotion files is almost complete. The reclassification process for the secretarial positions is complete. Interviews for the Executive Director of the Office of International Studies and Programs are underway. Dr. Soltz and David Kaufman are going to Washington, DC on Monday to see a demonstration on the Blackboard Enterprise-Wide System.
Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs:
Mr. Corona reported that the he received a draft report from the HR consultant. He will be sharing it with Dr. McIntyre at their weekly meeting tomorrow.
Vice President for University Relations:
Dr. Baker reported that he has selected the search committee members for the Director of Public Relations & Marketing position. The committee members are: Julie Cloninger, Chair, Michael Ogden, Jody Baxter, and Joan Glover. Dr. Baker will be interviewing two students for his executive intern position.
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management:
Dr. Tullos distributed three samples for the CWU Catalog cover for the Cabinet to review. The group offered a few suggestions on the layout/pictures. The Student Affairs and Enrollment Management division is very busy with disciplinary and academic hearings every day for the next two weeks. Over the summer, the entire student judicial code will be reviewed and revised. Dr. Tullos will give an update on "Senior Celebration" as the date gets closer. It is scheduled for June 4.
Executive Assistant to the President for Policy & Planning:
Dr. Street distributed a list of questions from the Community Futures Project. It was agreed that Bill Vertrees will be the CWU representative on this committee. Mr. Corona will pass this information on to Ted Barkley. The university calendaring group met. They are trying to get a better calendar prototype, but it's taking time. The scheduling component is working great. Dr. Street is working with several individuals on archives issues. She will report back to Cabinet soon. The report from Chuck McIntyre should be here next week and he will be on campus the week of June 6. Dr. Street reminded Cabinet members to send their synthesizing committee nominations to her as soon as possible.
President:
Dr. McIntyre reported that since the Educational Benefits Policy was pulled at the Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, the board will approve this policy at their summer retreat in July. Dr. McIntyre and Dr. Baker will be going to Icicle Creek to meet with Harriet Bullit on Friday.
V. Old Business
1. Compensation Policy - is this policy ready to be reviewed by PAC again on May 18?
The group agreed that in the midst of faculty collective bargaining, they cannot go forward with this policy approval at this time.
