Wednesday, August 18, 20048:30 a.m. - Barge 412 Present: Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Charlotte Tullos, Rich Corona, Paul Baker, Judy Miller, Lucas Westcoat, Keith Champagne, Toni Culjak. I. Action Items 1. Approval of the PAC minutes from July 21, 2004. Motion to approve as presented by David Soltz. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried. 2. Revisions to University Committees. Dr. Baker distributed the University Naming Policy 2-2.24.3. This has been approved by the committee with minor changes. II. For the Good of the Order Judy Miller Ms. Miller distributed the draft policy for Children in the Workplace and Pets in the Workplace, along with the WAC rule regarding animals. A discussion followed regarding the definition of service animals and adding an exception for breastfeeding mothers to the policies. Ms. Miller will consult with Margaret Smith, Steve Rittereiser and Meghan Matheson on possible revisions. The creation of a rules review committee to periodically check sections of the WAC was discussed. Ms. Miller, the vice presidents and the BOD will be asked to submit possible names for the committee. Ms. Miller will ask the Board of Trustees if they would consider having academic fee reviews more than once a year. The Tobacco Use Rule implementation was discussed. Mr. Corona will work on appropriate signage and relocation of ashtrays. Keith Champagne No report. Toni Culjak Dr. Culjak is in the process of trying to schedule a meeting with Susan Donahoe to discuss faculty collective bargaining. III. Executive Reports 1. Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs - Dr. David Soltz Mr. Tom Hustoles, the collective bargaining consultant, will be on campus September 18. The search for the Associate Vice President for Faculty Relations, or some similar title, is coming along. The hope is to have someone in place by January 2005. This position will serve as the lead administrator for bargaining and faculty issues, negotiations, contract interpretations, and broader faculty relation issues. The President's division will fund the position. Fall Faculty Day will be held on Thursday, September 16 from 1:30 - 4:30, followed by a reception. They are in the planning stages now and Dr. Soltz will keep everyone informed. 2. Vice President for Student Affairs nbsp; Enrollment Management - Dr. Charlotte Tullos The scholarships for swimming and wrestling are in place and being honored. There are 1,522 eligible freshman students this fall. Final numbers should be available tomorrow. New student transfers are currently registering and the numbers look good. Student Housing is working very hard to accommodate the rise in numbers. We are over the projected numbers at this time. 3. Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs - Mr. Rich Corona The SUB/Rec building project is on schedule. The bid is now open and will be awarded in October. The new dining venue is on schedule and should be implemented on September 13. The dining services warehouse is also on schedule. The new power poles will be up by the end of this week and the conductors should be arriving next week. There was a flurry of graffiti across campus, including Barge, Mitchell and the Tower Theatre. The suspected vandals are in hand and charges will be filed. The cost of cleanup is also being tracked. The survey of all the trees on campus has been completed and has been implemented into a database. The tree management plan can now be moved forward. The database contains all of the 4,000 trees on campus, including the species and condition of each tree. Mr. Corona is preparing for the meeting with the Chamber of Commerce to discuss the concerns regarding the new SUB/Rec. Mr. Corona was in Olympia yesterday meeting with budgeters and collective bargaining negotiators. There is still a projected deficit of 1 billion for the next biennium. There was a discussion regarding classified staff bargaining and coordinating efforts with OFM, which went well. PeopleSoft is coming along nicely and they are ready for fall quarter. After fall quarter registration, SIS will be laid to rest. 4. Vice President for University Relations - Dr. Paul Baker Tickets are now available for the Seattle Symphony and the Battle in Seattle. Dr. Baker has received verbal acceptance from the candidate for the Senior Director of Development position. The development officers for the Library and the College of Business have started. 5. President - Dr. Jerilyn McIntyre After four years of discussion, performance indicators are ready to be implemented. Transitions to Success, the partnership between Eastern Washington University, Central Washington University and the community colleges, was discussed. Central Washington University and Big Bend Community College are working together on ideas to ease transition and facilitate transfer to Central Washington University. Margaret Badgley will be following this issue closely. IV. Information Items 1. University Bulletin items - Mr. Mark Anderson. Tickets are now available for the Seattle Symphony and the Battle in Seattle. 2. Mark Halperin was the recipient of the Fulbright Award. 3. Meghan Miller has been appointed to the National Science Committee. V. Old Business a. On-line catalog - Dr. Culjak brought up the issue of going to an on-line catalog. More discussion is needed, but this could be worked in to next year's budget. |
