MinutesPresident’s CabinetWednesday, May 26, 2004 8:30 a.m. – Barge 314 Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Charlotte Tullos, Libby Street, Paul Baker, Rich Corona I. Action Items 1. Approval of the PAC minutes from 5/12/04. Motion to approve as presented by Dr. Baker. Seconded by Dr. Tullos. No further discussion. Motion carried. II. Discussion Item: 1. At 9:00: “2004 Legislative Summary: Accountability,” with Linda Beath, Ann Anderson, Mark Lundgren, Shelly Johnson Dr. Beath gave some background on this summary. She indicated that Nina Oman, HECB Staff, put together a group from the baccalaureates for the purpose of looking at accountability measures for the baccalaureate institutions. The first meeting is today, here on campus. The summary that was distributed contains language from bills passed by the 2004 Legislature related to accountability or performance indicators in higher education. The HECB is beginning to use the Governor’s model of “Priorities of Government (POG). Dr. Beath indicated that part of the discussion today is to look at the accountability measures between the HECB and the Governor’s POG. 2. Athletics Blue Ribbon Commission Dr. McIntyre asked the group to review the list and send suggestions of members and appropriate constituencies to Dr. Street prior to June 4, 2004. 3. Best Practices Among AASCU Institutions Dr. McIntyre asked the group to look at the website, decide whether or not we should participate, and get back to Dr. Street with suggestions. III. Executive Reports 1. Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic AffairsDr. Soltz reported that he and the deans decided yesterday to renew the subscription to the plagiarism software “Turn it in.” The high demand proposals are on track. An opinion from Teresa Kulik on the copyrighted films issue was received. There will be a conference call with the Union and PERC today. The collective bargaining ballots will be going out on June 2 and will be counted on June 23. The Faculty Forum went very well. The union members that were present answered the audience questions clearly and concisely. 2. Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment ManagementDr. Tullos reported that Thursday, May 27 is student appreciation day. There will be a barbecue and a fireworks display at the fields north of Nicholson Pavilion. The Scheduling Committee appointments have been made, fall registration is currently going on, and commencement exercises are in order. 3. Vice President for Business & Financial AffairsMr. Corona reported on the bond sales. He indicated that the economic indicators are currently working in our favor. They were able to get the average yield (true rate) down to approximately 5.069%. Construction bids for the SUB/REC building will go out the end of July. The proposal on exempt salaries is going out this week. The Music building equipment request went to OFM. 4. Vice President for University RelationsDr. Baker will invite Jack Bishop to the next President's Advisory Council to give a report on the “Battle in Seattle.” The Development search is coming along. Central Today is at the printer. Dr. Baker will have issues for everyone at the next cabinet. 5. Executive AssistantDr. Street reported that she met with Dr. Baker, Ralph Phillips, and Dr. Connie Roberts last week to discuss how CWU should proceed with the Suncadia (formerly MountainStar) issue. A group will be meeting to discuss logistics before the July 14 meeting that the Cabinet is attending. Dr. Street is working with Wayne Quirk on getting a meeting with the Colvilles to discuss the MOU. The entire university committee list will be reviewed by Cabinet one more time before it is put out on the CWU website. 6. PresidentDr. McIntyre asked for updates on the SUB/REC Groundbreaking and the Music Education Facility Grand Opening. Dr. Baker will check on the progress of these two events and report back. IV.
