President’s Cabinet

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

8:30 a.m. – BARGE 412

Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Rich Corona, Paul Baker, Libby Street, Charlotte Tullos

I. Action Items

1. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 2/11/04 and 2/25/04.

Motion to approve as presented by Dr. Soltz. Seconded by Mr. Corona. No further discussion. Motion carried.

II. Discussion Items

1. Review of Board of Trustees 3/12 meeting agenda items.

The agenda was reviewed item by item to ensure that all preparations have been adequately made.

2. Performance evaluation letters.

Tabled until 3/17 Cabinet meeting.

3. Marketing Plan, Stage 2 – Paul Baker & Mark Anderson

Dr. Baker presented an electronic viewbook prototype for the web page. The slides propose answers to the marketing question, “What’s Central to You?” The responses are related to the five branding points from the Desautel/Hege marketing plan. Dr. Baker demonstrated the interactive version for the group. The Cabinet discussed the artistic aspects and text of the prototype and made a number of comments and suggestions. These points will be incorporated.

4. Proposal from Peter Eliason, NYT Regional Education Manager, re: NYT readership program in the high school.

This proposal was reviewed and will be declined. Dr. Street will follow up with Mr. Eliason.

5. Review of Budgets with Shelly Johnson.

This discussion was designed to prepare the Cabinet for their upcoming retreat on 3/13. The FY04 budget recap, FY 05 budget planning, and 2005-07 operating budget planning will be major discussion topics for this meeting. Dr. Street also discussed the budget planning model. Other items for the retreat were also briefly touched on.

III. Executive Reports

Dr. Dave Soltz – Provost/SVPAA

The library will offer extended hours through the end of spring quarter for weekends and imbedded Monday holidays. This new schedule will be evaluated during the summer and a decision made on whether or not to continue it.

The Deans and Provost have now constructed a new faculty appointment letter with more standardized language. One-quarter release time for new tenure track appointments will be funded through the Provost’s Office.

The program review process continues and is functioning well thus far.

Academic Affairs revisions to the enrollment management plan will be completed at the end of this week. Another joint meeting between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management staff will be arranged soon.

A faculty overload policy is being development.

The provost had a productive meeting with the Faculty Senate budget committee yesterday.

Mr. Rich Corona – VPBFA

Mr. Corona distributed a handout regarding the proposed rate increases for campus parking permits. This will be a discussion item for the May Trustees meeting.

The next Moody’s visit is scheduled for 4/13 to discuss bonding for the SUB/Rec project. Mr. Corona gave an overview of the meeting agenda.

Copies summarizing the EIS training sessions on the new SAFARI system were distributed.

Dr. Charlotte Tullos – VPSAEM

Freshman applications are up over the same time last year. Retention also continues to improve. The Financial Aid offer letters went out very early this year and the student response has been very positive. Getting these letters out so early has been a major triumph for the Financial Aid staff.

The consultant hired to analyze SAEM grant programs is on campus this week.

A Wildcat Connection button will be added to the main web page as an entry point for students to access a variety of student services information.

Dr. Paul Baker – VPUR

The tickets for the CWU Alumni Mariners vs. Yankees game are completely sold out. Negotiations for an Ellensburg commencement speaker should be completed soon.

Dr. Libby Street – Executive Assistant

A Federal legislative briefing sheet was sent to Cabinet for review yesterday. Nominations for the external diversity council are coming in. Another Presidential Speakers Series speaker, Richard Berke of the New York Times, will be on campus 4/12. The Brown vs. Board of Education celebration committee is forming. Preparations for fall NWCCU visit are progressing.

Dr. Jerilyn McIntyre – President

Dr. McIntyre has been working with city officials on a variety of community issues.

IV. Information Items
