I. Action Items

1. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 8/28/03.

Motion to approve as presented – Dr. Soltz. Seconded by Dr Baker. No further discussion. Motion carried.

II. Discussion Items

1. RFP's for the cost study - with Shelly Johnson, Mark Lundgren and Bruce Porter.

The Cabinet received copies of the RFP's at the last meeting to give sufficient time for a thorough review. Mr. Porter reviewed the evaluation criteria for the process. The group discussed each proposal in detail and developed a group score for each of the criteria. Mr. Porter will handle the remainder of the process.

III. Executive Reports

Dr. Dave Soltz - Provost/SVPAA

Dr. Soltz distributed the Academic Affairs 2003-04 personnel action calendar. This calendar will be on the web and circulated on the campus by the end of this week.

Today is the Academic Affairs staff symposium. The turnout has been very good as 72 have signed up to attend. The focus is on change and how to deal with it. Fall Faculty Day is 9/18 and will focus on transforming the university.

The deadline to apply for voluntary retirement has passed.

Dr. Charlotte Tullos - VPSAEM

Student Affairs is having a September 11 remembrance in the SUB. The names of all of the victims of 9/11 will be displayed in the SUB through 10/1.

Homecoming 2004 update: The Jay Leno tickets are selling fast.

The presidential speakers series committee met yesterday to discuss potential speakers. The theme for this year is globalization.

The ASCWU-BOD orientation retreat is scheduled for this weekend.

Enrollment is up 641 from the same time last year. The residence halls are up 120 over same time last year. Wildcat Welcome Weekend starts 9/19 with Movers & Shakers. The centers student orientations are coming up soon.

REGI opens on 9/15. SAEM is preparing for web based registration on PeopleSoft for next year.

There are planning meetings underway to plan for working with academically at-risk students.

Mr. Rich Corona - VPBFA

The roof at the Old Hospital will be patched this winter. It's hoped that the funding for a new roof will come through for next year.

A memo was shared dated 6/21/02 from OFM about how to handle union organization efforts on campus so that the state policies on this are clearly understood.

A draft of Mr. Corona's memo on new standards for approval on purchases, hiring and travel was shared. The Cabinet approved this document and Mr. Corona will distribute it to the campus. He also discussed a draft report that summarizes funds spent on travel. The Cabinet found this report very useful and asked that he have this report produced for them on a regular basis.

JLARC is asking for information on our capital projects processes. Mr. Corona will coordinate CWU's response.

The recent spate of computer viruses and their effect in the residence halls is a concern. An email from Gene Rau summarizing the situation was distributed for discussion.

Improved exterior building signage and banners for the campus were discussed.

FMD is moving ahead with installing the security system and other improvements for the Japanese Garden.

Mr. Mark Anderson for VPUR

No report from Dr. Baker.

Mr. Anderson reported from his area that approximately half of the CWU web pages have been transferred into the new system (8,000-9,000 pages thus far). Plans for a "launch" next spring are underway.

Grand Opening for CWU-Yakima went quite well. The Battle in Seattle has sold 5500 tickets to date. With students returning soon to both the CWU and WWU this figure is expected to increase significantly. The president asked for a written summary of all of the activities that are being planned for The Battle in Seattle.

Planning for the library naming ceremony is also underway.

Funding for university functions shared among the president and four vice presidents' areas was discussed. Chief Rittereiser put together a crime statistics report for the president, which she shared with the Cabinet.
