I. At 8:30: Presentation -- John Drinkwater, Pam Purvis, and Katrina Whitney on Recommendations of Ad Hoc Child Care Committee.

The report of the Ad Hoc Child Development Center Task Force was distributed. Mr. Drinkwater summarized the group’s activities and discussions over the past year, which included visits to other family resource centers to examine their facilities and programs. The committee focused on the family resource center concept and developed potential community networks. Mr. Drinkwater gave an overview of the progress of the committee over the last several months. There are many opportunities for community and academic partnerships built into this proposed program. The intent is to develop a holistic program that addresses family issues from infants through senior care. Ms. Purvis presented on the benefits of partnerships between the university and the community. Ms. Whitney reviewed the committee’s recommendations. Dr. McIntyre encouraged the committee to continue to work on this proposal, including information about the achievable mission, space needs and funding streams for the program. A secondary task force will be developed to address the second phase of this process.

IV. Executive Reports

Dr. Linda Beath – for Provost/SVPAA

Funding for additional transfer FTEs was approved by OFM. CWU’s proposal to HECB for a portion high demand FTEs is under review and a decision will hopefully be made by 7/30.

Dr. Charlotte Tullos - VPSAEM

The enrollment numbers are very positive overall, with 1175 freshmen registered as of today. Freshmen numbers are up, compared to the same time last year. Housing occupancy is also up.

There are three more student orientations coming up. Dr. Tullos extended her appreciation to the New Student Programs and Housing staff on the excellent job they’ve all done with orientations. Record numbers of students participated in orientations this year.

Last week, Dr. Tullos attended the national conference on student retention. It was her feeling that the sessions she attended confirmed that CWU is on the right track in our program to increase retention.

Forty high school counselors from across Washington will be on campus next week for a first-hand look at CWU.

The CWU-Lynnwood center has received $30K in S&A fees for the year. The system of returning S & A funding back to the centers is being developed further.

Dr. Paul Baker - VPUR

The Foundation has sent out a request for proposal for new investment advisory services. Nineteen RFP’s were sent out and 16 proposals were received. Five finalists will be coming to campus for interviews soon.

Recently, there has been a lack of coordination between the departments and the Foundation for awarding scholarships. All scholarships should be awarded through the Financial Aid Office. New procedures are being established to ensure that departments are aware of their scholarship budget each year.

The CWU vs. WWU football game on 10/4, will be held in Seahawks Stadium. The theme is, “Battle in Seattle: Which Side of the Mountain Are You On?” Planning for this first-of-its-kind event is coming together very well. The CWU pep band and cheerleaders will be present. Busses will be available for those needing transportation. A direct link to the game information page will be installed on the CWU home page very soon.

Mr. Rich Corona - VPBFA

The Senior Director of ITS, AVP Business and Financial Affairs, and Accounting Manager searches are progressing and nearing completion.

Mr. Corona is holding a meeting today to discuss the future of Sue Lombard and to coordinate all of the capital improvement schedules for the campus over the next few years. Contingency planning for effects on the campus and students will be emphasized. The next three years are very critical for determining how projects are managed and coordinated.

Dr. Libby Street – Executive Assistant

Mark Lundgren has incorporated the provost’s input about variables for the peer institution list. Mr. Lundgren will rework the data and the new draft will come to the Cabinet for review.

The Library Dean search is moving forward.

The University Calendaring Committee has met twice and should have a proposal on how to manage university scheduling coming forward soon.

Arrangements for the Board of Trustees retreat on campus 8/7-8, were discussed.
