Minutes Jerilyn McIntyre, Dave Soltz, Keith Champagne, Joe Antonich, Paul Baker, Libby Street I. Action Items 1. Approval of Cabinet minutes from 8/6/03. Motion to approve as presented – Dr. Soltz. Seconded by Dr Baker. No further discussion. Motion carried. II. Discussion Items 1. Update on budgets - including memo to campus, “2003-04 Academic Year Budget.” This memo was distributed to the campus via email yesterday. A column on the budget will be in The Daily Record. Next year’s allocations are being distributed. 2. Academic programming and planning. This is meant as a long-term discussion item, similar to the performance indicators last year. Student Affairs, Academic Affairs will be involved in this planning initiative, as will all divisions, as appropriate. 3. Preparations for upcoming Rodeo Bowl events 8/29 and CWU – Yakima Grand Opening 9/8. President Trebon of Carroll College will be at the Rodeo Bowl brunch and will visit the President’s Box at the football game. The reception at Kamola Hall will begin right after the end of the game. The CWU-Yakima Grand Opening is on schedule for 9/8. The event will include a music performance, building tours, and brief speeches from Dr. McIntyre, YVCC President Kaminski, WSU Tri-Cities Chancellor Larry James, and state Senator Alex Deccio. III. Executive Reports Dr. Dave Soltz – Provost/SVPAA Academic Affairs is completing the resource allocation process for FY04, including distributing the transfer and high demand money. All of these programs will make the enrollment goals, with the exception of Career Switcher, which is at 22. The provost is working on the details of the Terms of Agreement for CWU-Yakima facility. Dr. Wayne Quirk is here and settling in. Tom Peischl has accepted the Library dean position and should be on campus by the end of October. Two important hearings on higher education are coming up on 9/18-19 in Olympia. Dr. Soltz and Ann Anderson will work on CWU’s presentation for these hearings. Mr. Keith Champagne – for VPSAEM The SAEM retreat planning is finished and ready to go for 9/3. Mr. Joe Antonich – for VPBFA The collective bargaining process may have a significant impact on future budget requests for all state agencies. House Bill 2151 gives more control over the prioritization of capital projects for the state universities to the HECB. The ongoing implementation of the PeopleSoft SA module is coming along. A draft of the FMS upgrade plan is under review. Work on the year-end financial close and preparation of financial statements is going much more smoothly than last year. Dr. Paul Baker – VPUR The Foundation Board finance committee met with the finalists for the new investment fund manager. There are two excellent candidates out of a group of six finalists. The board is voting on which to choose. A Japanese lantern is being donated to the President’s Residence. It will be added to the small Japanese-style garden in the main entryway. The Foundation Board members are working on a holding a fundraiser for the Presidential Speaker Series. Over $1M in Foundation funding proposals are out at this time. A protocol is being developed for naming recognition events. The Seahawk Stadium President’s Box for the Battle in Seattle has a capacity of about 24. Dr. Baker is working on an appropriate guest list. Dr. Libby Street – Executive Assistant Dr. Street sent out a memo regarding Resource 25 and Schedule 25, the calendar scheduling software. She is moving ahead with scheduling an informational meeting for those involved. Linda Schactler is working on a workforce development article. A meeting will be scheduled to discuss the Presidential Speaker Series. Dr. Jerilyn McIntyre – President No further report. IV. Information Items V. Old Business
