The Central Washington University Police Department encourages you to report suspicious activities. Crime prevention is a partnership between law enforcement and the community. If you see questionable activities, call 911 and report them immediately. The vehicle theft that you prevent could be your own.
The Central Washington University Police Department has been given a unique opportunity. The Washington Auto Theft Prevention Association has awarded the CWU Police Department a grant to educate the public on preventing auto theft. This is a unique opportunity since CWU does not have a high number of auto thefts, but the population is primarily comprised of individuals who arrive from areas with high levels of auto thefts.
The CWU Police Department provides a community based police force that is dedicated to educating and protecting society. The grant provided by the Washington Auto Theft Prevention Association has enabled the CWU Police Department to develop and implement educational patrols and classes to prevent auto theft. Currently, the CWU Police Department has several officers patrolling the University parking lots providing individuals with material on auto theft prevention while also observing the lots for suspicious activities. Within the following year, an auto theft educational class will be available to the public. This class will be instructed by a professional police officer using video and power point presentations, and allow the attending individuals to ask the police officer questions about the program and how to help prevent auto theft. This information video will be available online Spring of 2009. Please check back for updated information.
