This year’s distinguished alumnus is James McGreevy, Religious Studies Specialization, Class of 2002. Mr. McGreevy is a Crop Production Focalizer at Cloudview Ecofarm (www.cloudviewecofarm.org).
Raised on a small farm in Northwest Washington, James learned early on the value of exploration, both intellectual and spiritual. Although he now explores the world by means of seed and soil, James has pursued religious, philosophical, and experiential means to delve deeper into what motivates humankind. Inspired by what he learned at CWU, James decided upon graduation to attune himself to a more pragmatic, pivotal engagement of his world through further study and work in organic agriculture.
James earned a second degree at The Evergreen State College with a focus on sustainable agriculture and organic seed production. With this experience he went on to work with the Evergreen Organic Farm and Community gardens, as well as the Ellensburg Community Garden upon his return to the valley in 2008. James is now at home with Cloudview Ecofarm in Royal City, where he manages organic crop production and leads a team of young farmers in pursuit of a more fulfilling and sustainable livelihood. He is developing a bioregional vegetable seed business as well as helping to catalyze the local food movement in Central Washington, bringing fresh produce to local schools and markets. He shares his passion for living things with his three beautiful children, hoping to instill in them a wonder for the natural world around them.
