She has been a member of the Ellensburg and CWU community since 1994. Hometown is a little cross roads called Mt. Ivy in New York state, and lived there for 22 years. Pursued an undergraduate degree double majoring in Physical Education and Health Education at Ashland University in Ohio. Her BA is in Interdisciplinary Studies from Marymount College. Relocated further westward to Palmer Lake, Colorado which was home for the next 15 years. Earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Athletic Administration from the University of Colorado. Enjoyed hiking and mountain biking in the foothills of the Rockies and climbed several of the 14er’s while basking in Colorado’s blue skies and training in thin air.


Began group exercise instruction when the bench step was born and dance aerobics was taught by Jane Fonda in leg warmers!  Has been involved in many different aspects of fitness and human performance for the last 35 years including group exercise instruction, private training, corporate fitness administration, athletic director, video and television production and University instruction.

As coordinator of the Physical Education Activity program at CWU, she administrates, coordinates, and promotes physical movement. She teaches a variety of classes depending on the day, the week and the time of year which may include Cycling, various Water Exercise courses, Abdominal Strength, Fitness BOSU and Fit Ball training, Triathlon and more.

Debra has been and remains actively involved in research as co - investigator and serves as special appointment to many graduate thesis committees.  She enjoys contributing to CWU SOURCE.

1) Physiological and Psychological Aspects of Shallow Water Exercise,
2) Cardiorespiratory Responses to a 20-minute Shallow Water Tabata-style Workout
3) Eating Disorder Risk, Exercise Dependence and Body Weight Dissatisfaction among Female Nutrition and Exercise Science University Majors
