Weekly Sunset Hikes
Every Tuesday• Departs OPR at 4 p.m., returns at 7 p.m.
$5 per trip for CWU students & Rec. Center members, $10 for non-members

Join our trip leaders and your fellow students for some exercise and beautiful scenery in the Ellensburg area. Hikes range from easy to moderate difficulty levels, just check in at OPR to see where the hike is going. Make sure to bring closed toed shoes, some water and a snack!

Kayak Pool Sessions
Most Sundays • 7 - 9 p.m. • CWU Aquatic Center
$5 per session • No experience needed.
No experience needed. This is a great chance to become introduced to the sport of kayaking. Participants need to wear a swimsuit and bring a towel.
Bike Maintenance Clinic
Come learn how to take care of your bike and save money by doing it yourself! We will go over how to change a flat, cleaning and applying lube to your chain to get the most out of it. Then we will touch on brake adjustment and setting the bike up to your body. Plan on about an hour and bring your bike.
Outdoor Overnight Climbing Trip
Meet at Climbing Wall
$75 CWU students and rec members/ $95 non members
Pre-registration is required
This outdoor trip will teach you the basics of climbing in the outdoors. Includes all equipment, camping, transportation, and fun!
Top rope belay certification required

SURC East Patio • Free Check out the wide array of outdoor activities available while meeting the people behind a lot of the brands you see around campus and in the outdoors. Participating vendors include Red Bull, Northwest Riders, Stevens Pass Bike Park, Pizza Colin, regional clothing brands, white water river guides, board shops and much more! Many vendors run CWU specific sales and discounts for the symposium, and some even do raffles for product. There is something for everyone there!
Raft Guide Training
Saturday & Sunday
$50 CWU Students
This course is designed to teach you the basic skills required to safely guide a paddle raft down class I and II rivers. It is a great introduction to the sport of river running and will give you an opportunity to not only spend a ton of time out on the water but also learn about hydrology, navigation, teamwork, and river safety. Participants who are successful in this course may qualify for employment during the summer at OPR. So, if you are going to be in Ellensburg for the summer and want a fun job, this course is definitely for you! For those looking to advance their skills into more difficult whitewater, opportunities will be available.
Manastash Lake Backpacking Trip
Departs Saturday @ 9:00 am- Returns Sunday @ 9:00 pm
$50 CWU Students and Rec. Center Members, $60 Non-Members
Get out of town for a weekend and dive into the wilderness with our guides at OPR. This all inclusive trip is the perfect way to get introduced to the overnight camping scene, or just simply escape for a couple days.
Mt. St. Helens Overnight
Departs Saturday @ 9:00 am- Returns Sunday night late
$100 CWU Students and Rec. Center Members, $125 Non-Members
Looking for an exciting way to celebrate Mother’s Day? Then join OPR for an overnight trip to Mount Saint Helens, where we will be following the tradition of summiting the volcano while dressed in crazy costumes. Transportation, all gear rentals, and permits ($22) included.
Boulder River Camping Trip
Departs Saturday @ 9:00 am- Returns Sunday @ 9:00 pm
$75 CWU Students and Rec. Center Members, $85 Non-Members
Join us on an overnight adventure to Boulder River in the Mt. Baker National Forest. Trek along the wild river, traverse the forest wonderland, and enjoy the sights and sounds of a beautiful waterfall! Spend the night under the stars with OPR. Space is limited, so sign up soon!
Swift Water Rescue Training
Friday evening; all day Saturday and Sunday
$385 CWU students and Rec. Center member’s $400 non-members
This course is designed for anyone who wants to be competent with skills required for river rescue. Whether you are a whitewater kayaker, a raft guide, or just a leisure river floater, the knowledge acquired during this course could one day save your life or the life of a friend. With one classroom session and then two days on the water, this course covers a wide variety of knots, pulley systems, craft recovery techniques, as well as how to recover, retrieve, and transport people in the river. All gear necessary for this course is included in the cost including dry suits, PFD’s, and helmets.
De-stress Day Hike
Saturday • Departs OPR at 9 a.m., returns at 5:00 p.m (approx.)
$25 per trip for CWU students & Rec. Center members, $30 for non-members
Come explore the local area with our guides at OPR. These day trips get you out on one of our local hikes and move at a nice and relaxing pace so you can truly enjoy yourself. Don’t forget to pack a lunch and bring some water as we will be in the field for a good portion of the day.
Wilderness First Responder Certification Course
Consists of several online classes and tests that are to be completed by the end of Spring Quarter, followed by five days of hands on training in June.
$580 CWU students and Rec. Center members (before April 1), $600 (after April 1)
$5630 non-members (before April 1), $650 (after April 1)
