Intro to Canvas
Find out what the buzz is about! In this workshop you will get an overview of Canvas, the new learning management system CWU has been piloting. You will learn how to navigate the Canvas interface, update your settings/notifications and build preview the tools available.
Assignments in Canvas
During this session you will learn about the following: The different assignment types in Canvas, how to create assignments in Canvas, how to weight the final grade based on Assignment Groups, how to create and view assignments when in the Calendar in Canvas, and how to bulk download and upload assignment submissions.
Canvas Gradebook & SpeedGrader
Allow your students to receive timely feedback through Canvas. Learn how to: Interpret icons and colors in the Gradebook, enter and edit scores, change assignment group weights and use the SpeedGrader. SpeedGrader is a slick interface that allows instructors to quickly score, provide feedback, and engage in dialog with students on submitted assignments, discussion participation, and quizzes. It also includes a way to annotate student submissions inline without re-uploading them.
Canvas Tests & Respondus
Learn to use Respondus, a special tool developed for faculty teaching with Canvas and other LMS's. By following several simple rules you can generate entire quizzes in a word processor and transfer them with ease into your Canvas course. CWU has a site license for Respondus and after the training you will receive instructions on how to download a free copy for your use.
Migrating Your Course from Blackboard Prereq: Intro to Canvas
In this hands-on workshop you will export your course from Blackboard and import it into Canvas. Afterward you will learn how to customize the content and move things into desired locations. You will learn to organize course files and modules and configure your custom settings.
Streamlining Your Course with Modules
Simplify the navigation and organization of your course for students with the use of modules. Modules hold assignments, files, web links, and wiki pages. They can be locked or require sequential completion.
Using Turnitin in Canvas
Learn the steps to create a Turnitin Assignment in Canvas and view originality reports that identify plagiarized sources. Using Grade Mark you will grade sample papers, and transfer scores to Canvas SpeedGrader.
Using Pages & Modules in Canvas
One of the core features of the Canvas LMS is its 'Pages' tool. Pages are customizable and collaborative components that serve multiple functions. In this workshop, we will look at the Canvas philosophy for Pages and consider the problems and possibilities of integrating them into your face-to-face, hybrid, or online Canvas course.
Streaming Video and MediaAmp
This workshop will be demonstration on how to request and access streaming video for your online course with Brooks Library’s new streaming service: Who can request it, How to request it, How you and your students can access it. We will additionally demonstrate and describe uses of the MediaAmp video streaming system.
Increasing Accessibility in Canvas
In this workshop you will learn how to create accessible documents and provide extended test time for individual students. You will also discover Universal Design techniques that will enhance the design and delivery of your online courses.
Collaborate is a webconferencing tool that allows users to conduct interactive meetings on the web in real time, and record those meetings for playback on-demand. The interface includes full two-way webcam video, audio, chat, application sharing, and whiteboard. You can upload Powerpoint slides, or other media, and present to an audience wo could, iterally, be scattered across the globe! This workshop will introduce you to the basics of using the system, and techniques for being a good presenter and engaging your audience. Ready? Let's Collaborate!
Improve Your Communication Skills in Canvas
Learn how to use the various communication tools available in Canvas including Announcements, Discussions, Conversations (internal email), Collaborations, Conferences, and Chat. Emphasis is also placed on tips and techniques for using these tools effectively in instruction.
Mobile Learning and Canvas
Learn about and discuss mobile learning strategies, in general, and how to effectively incorporate mobile technologies available in Canvas.
Based on the results of our three-quarter Canvas pilot and the Academic Technology Advisory Council's recommendation, the Enterprise Information Systems Committee has made the decision to adopt Canvas as the enterprise learning management system for CWU and migrate all Blackboard courses to Canvas by the end of Spring quarter 2014.
