Faculty Workshops

Live training webinars offered online with Blackboard Collaborate are now scheduled in addition to the usual face-to-face sessions in Barge Hall 201. Faculty at the University Centers and the Ellensburg campus, who wish to attend a training session from the comfort of their own office, may register for one of the scheduled workshops offered via Collaborate. For more information on these sessions please call 509-963-1224.

During this introductory workshop you will learn the basic features of Blackboard 9.1, as well as how to design and set up a web-enhanced course. You will learn: How Blackboard and Safari are integrated and about basic course management procedures; How to make your course available; How to customize your My Courses Box and your Course Menu; How to create announcements; How to set up your contact information; How structure and organize your courses in a logical and student friendly manner; The steps to upload course documents to your content areas; The features and functions of the Control Panel; About Notifications modules.
For users of Blackboard 9.1 Blackboard Collaborate enables faculty to easily and seamlessly integrate live, synchronous distance learning and collaboration into their coursework. That means instructors can schedule and deliver classes using Blackboard Collaborate, an Internet-based, real-time, multi-platform eLearning tool that includes voice over the Internet, video, shared whiteboards, text messaging, breakout rooms, application sharing, PowerPoint import, and more. WORKS ON MOBILE DEVICES
Allow your students to receive timely feedback through Blackboard. Learn Grade Center features that include in-cell editing, grading periods, smart views and progress reports. Learn what to do for grade weighting and total points methods, as well as extra credit.
This feature helps faculty prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers. In addition to acting as a plagiarism deterrent, it also has features designed to aid in educating students about plagiarism and importance of proper attribution of any borrowed content. You will learn to: Create a Safe Assignment for students to upload to; Set up and enable draft versions; Directly upload papers with Direct Submit; View Reports for student-submitted papers; Interpret Reports;
The Assignment feature allows you to receive assignments from your students digitally in Bb. When you set up an assignment with the Assignment tool it automatically creates an entry in the Grade Center. In the Grade Center you are then able to download all digital assignments sent from students at once rather than one at a time as required when using the Digital Dropbox. In addition it is possible to "select all" and delete all digital assignment files at once if needed. During this session you will learn the features of the Grade Center in Blackboard, as well.
Do you tire of typing questions one at a time in the forms provided in Blackboard to create your quizzes? Learn to use Respondus, a special tool developed for faculty teaching with Blackboard by a company called Respondus. By following several simple rules you can generate entire quizzes in a word processor and transfer them with ease into your Blackboard course. Learn ways to prevent cheating. CWU now has a site license for Respondus and after the training you will receive instructions on how to download a free copy for your use.
Video Everywhere is a feature of the content editor. You will see a new icon in the content editor that accesses your webcam. The feature provides the ability for instructors and students to: --Record a video on the fly using a webcam and have it seamlessly embedded in course materials, interactions, and feedback through the content editor. --Reuse previously recorded videos by choosing from one’s own “library” of videos. Global navigation streamlines access to personalized dashboard of settings and tools.
Learn to start discussion topics that will help students focus on the course material and share ideas as they process the assignments, readings, projects and exercises. Learn to use the Discussion Board as a cooperative learning tool in Blackboard. Asynchronous discussions can overcome the schedule-coordination problems that plague typical face-to-face learning teams. A rubric will be distributed as a guide for evaluating discussion board posts as assignments.
