Faculty Workshops - Canvas

Based on the evaluation and recommendation of the Academic Technology Advisory Council (ATAC), we have begun a pilot of the Canvas learning management system (LMS) this Spring with 21 faculty members across all four colleges teaching courses  using a range of modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online). We will continue the pilot through Summer and Fall. Based on feedback and surveys of faculty and students using Canvas, we will present results of the pilot to a variety of faculty groups in the Fall and report back to ATAC for a decision on whether to adopt Canvas as our enterprise LMS and migrate all courses from Blackboard by the end of Spring 2014. Faculty interested in testing and/or piloting courses in Canvas can request access by filling out the online form:

Live training webinars offered online with Blackboard Collaborate are now scheduled in addition to the usual face-to-face sessions in Barge Hall 201. Faculty at the University Centers and the Ellensburg campus, who wish to attend a training session from the comfort of their own office, may register for one of the scheduled workshops offered via Collaborate. During this introductory workshop you will learn the basic features of Instructure Canvas, as well as how to design and set up a web-enhanced course. You will learn: about navigation in Canvas, how to update your Canvas Profile settings, how to build a simple Canvas course, about modules and how the function in Canvas.
Allow your students to receive timely feedback through Canvas. Learn to how to: Interpret icons and colors in the Gradebook, enter and edit scores in the Gradebook, change assignment group weights in the Gradebook, and use the Speed Grader.
Learn to use Respondus, a special tool developed for faculty teaching with Canvas and other LMS's. By following several simple rules you can generate entire quizzes in a word processor and transfer them with ease into your Canvas course. CWU has a site license for Respondus and after the training you will receive instructions on how to download a free copy for your use.
During this session you will learn about the following: The different assignment types in Canvas, how to create assignments in Canvas, how to weight the final grade based on Assignment Groups, how to create and view assignments when in the Calendar in Canvas, and how to bulk download and upload assignment submissions.
This is an option for faculty who do not reside in Ellensburg and would like to take the Intro to Canvas workshop from the comfort of their own home/office.
