New Survey to Assess Childcare Needs in Kittitas County

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

CWU employees and students with children are encouraged to complete an anonymous survey to assess childcare needs in Kittitas County.

The Kittitas County Health Network is asking parents, guardians, employers, and childcare providers in the county to complete the survey by Friday, April 2. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to fill out, and participants will be entered for a chance to win one of four $100 gift cards to local grocery stores.

The information is being collected by the Network’s Childcare Work Group to help understand childcare availability and access in Kittitas County. The work is part of a $69,000 grant awarded to the Health Network from the Washington State Department of Commerce, Child Care Partnership Program.

At this time, there are only enough child care slots in Kittitas County to serve approximately one quarter of children 5 years old and younger. Lack of quality childcare access has been shown to negatively impact children’s learning, equity in the workforce, and family income potential.

In addition to the survey, the Network will convene a series of focus groups to address community members’ experiences, thoughts, and opinions about local childcare needs.
